Bill’s son Eric was 4 years old when his teachers suggested he may have an attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A psychologist confirmed this suspicion. Eric began supplementing with OmegaRx fish oil to calm his behavior. He is now age 20, and has no further symptoms.

When my son Eric and his twin brother attended preschool, Eric showed behavioral traits that led his teachers to believe he might have ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder). They suggested he see a psychologist for further evaluation. It was there that the diagnosis was confirmed.
A Secret About ADHD My Doctor Did Not Know
I’ve been familiar with the Zone Diet for many years, and am quite familiar with healthy living. I’ve read many books on the subject, ranging from Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill by Udo Erasmus, to Beyond Pritikin by Ann Louise Gittleman. I was even an original customer of Biosyn fish oils, produced by Dr. Sears’ before he founded Zone. I’m a strong follower of the Zone principles today.
When Eric was diagnosed with ADHD about 16 years ago, my wife and I were separated. I distinctly remember her calling me to thank me for introducing her to Dr. Sears’ omega-3s years before. She had experienced the benefits of it personally, and considering we weren’t talking much because of our separation, her calling me to talk about fish oil was a big deal. Our combined experience with fish oil made it a no-brainer to recommend it for our son.
At the time of Eric’s diagnosis, Dr. Sears was working with one of the leading researchers in the field of ADHD examining the use of omega-3s and behavior. Because of this research, we began administering fish oil daily to both Eric and his brother. All the symptoms and concerns of ADHD completely disappeared, and we never had to give Eric any medication.
Observations that Led Us to Take Action
Sometimes, your attention needs to be brought to something before you can put all the pieces together. I never suspected anything in Eric’s behavior that would have made me think that he had ADHD until his teachers brought it up.
Personality traits I didn’t think much about suddenly fit into the classifications of the disorder. There were two things that really stood out to me about Eric’s behavior. First, he would constantly follow his brother around repeating every single word he said. This mimicking behavior would drive his brother nuts, but was the extent of Eric’s attention at that point in time. Second, numerous times I remember Eric rushing excitedly into a room to tell me something only to forget what he was going to share. He would stand there for 3 to 4 seconds trying to remember, saying “Dad I have to tell you something,” and then completely forgetting.
In talking with other parents whose kids had ADHD, these seemed to be common symptoms. Where many have used use medication to manage this, we were thrilled to see success just by taking fish oil alone.
Present Day and Our Entire Family’s Improved Wellness
Today, Eric is working full-time as a restaurant manager at a few hipster spots in downtown Toronto. Despite following a vegan lifestyle, giving up fish oil is something he won’t do.
As for Eric’s brother and me, we too are religious about our omega-3s. I continue to follow an anti-inflammatory eating style and can really feel the difference when I adhere. I feel as though I’m slowing down the aging process. This was observed recently by my uncle who is six years older than me and has been plagued by some health issues. He recently asked me “When are you going to start looking old?” Perhaps as long as I keep taking my fish oil, I won’t. And with my son no longer displaying symptoms of ADHD, there seems to be strong evidence that Zone living is working for us.
