Picture the Zone Diet as the center of the wheel to good health. This wheel has different spokes, such as supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids and supplementation with polyphenols. Mental activity, especially meditation, is another spoke. That’s what I’m going to talk about in this story.
A few weeks ago I traveled to Panama City Beach,Fla.,(PCB) to visit with friends and enjoy the local country flavor, including the famous Apalachicola oysters. After lunch consisting of one dozen oysters on the half shell and a beer (it’s allowed, remember you need a protein chaser with alcohol) at Hunt’s Oysters in nearby St. Andrews, I drove down Front Beach Road towards PCB and noticed a large five-story building upside down on the side of the road. Rumor has it that Professor Wonder was trying to harness the power of a man-made tornado in his laboratory in the Bermuda Triangle when the experiment went awry, and the swirling vortex ripped the laboratory from its foundation and carried it thousands of miles away landing upside-down in Panama City Beach, Fla. Fortunately, all of the experiments remained intact and functional so I entered.
My first physical activity was in the wind tunnel that simulated the effects of a category-one hurricane at 74 mph. That was easy compared to my next adventure, the 360 Bike. Don’t know why I strapped myself into the bike, but three revolutions were enough before I almost lost my lunch.
So what does this have to do with gift ideas? Take a deep breath and relax. The next challenge was a mental activity called Mindball. Participants sit at opposite ends of a table wearing a headband that measures brain’s activity. A round “Mindball” is placed in the center of the table an equal distance from each participant. The person who is more relaxed will move the ball away from them and toward the opponent’s goal. You win by relaxing!
Years ago I took a few courses in developing my mental skills so I applied my techniques. The attendant who was overseeing the competition said that was the first time in months that a person sitting in my chair won. Impressive? Not really.
