Why it Works
Cellular inflammation: The Problem
Cellular inflammation is what makes us gain weight, accelerate the development of chronic disease, and decrease our physical performance. Although this type of inflammation is below the perception of pain, you can measure it, and more than 90% of Americans have high levels of it. If the levels of cellular inflammation remain elevated, it can become a silent killer.
There is no drug that can reverse cellular inflammation. It is caused by the diet and can only be effectively reversed by the anti-inflammatory Zone Diet. If you want to retake control of life, your first step must be the reduction of cellular inflammation.
Why We Gain Weight
Increased cellular inflammation can turn your fat cells into a “fat trap” especially if you are genetically predisposed. Once this happens, the dietary calories get trapped in your fat cells and can’t be released to make the energy you need to survive and move around. As a result you are constantly hungry. Once you begin to reverse cellular inflammation, the “fat trap” is relaxed, and you stop the hunger. If you are never hungry, then cutting back on calories is easy.
Zone Diet: The Solution
The Zone Diet is clinically proven to reverse cellular inflammation by maintaining the inflammatory hormones generated by the food we eat within a Zone that is not too high, but not too low.
The dietary program is conceptually simple. Simply divide your plate at every meal into three equal sections.
On one-third of the plate put some low-fat protein that is no bigger or thicker than the palm of your hand. Then fill the other two-thirds of the plate with colorful carbohydrates (vegetables and fruits). Finally add a dash (that’s a small amount) of fat that is low in omega-6 and saturated fats such as olive oil.
Your success in constructing a Zone meal is indicated by lack of hunger for the next four to six hours.
Simple in concept, often difficult in execution because you have avoid many of the foods that people love to eat (bread, pizza, pasta, potatoes, and rice). In addition, you have to maintain the appropriate balance of protein, carbohydrate and fat at every meal to maintain the hormonal balance to reduce cellular inflammation.
Omega-3 Fish Oil
The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are powerful nutrients to further reduce cellular inflammation. The biochemistry is complex, but the execution is easy—simply take OmegaRx, the highest purity fish oil with or without a prescription, on daily basis.
To maximize the anti-inflammatory benefits of omega-3 fatty acid, it is always recommended to take an adequate dose of purified polyphenols to protect the omega-3 fatty acids from oxidation in the body as well as inhibit the master switch for inflammation. The amount of polyphenols you need depends on the amount of omega-3 fatty acids you are taking.
Managing Chronic Conditions with Zone Supplements
If you have a chronic condition or are simply not getting the maximum out of life, then the problem is usually due to increased levels of cellular inflammation. The only way to reverse that is by following the anti-inflammatory Zone Diet supplemented with omega-3 fatty acids, polyphenols, and condition-specific micronutrients.
