Zone gives triathlete a competitive edge

Champion triathlete Becky Lavelle is getting a training boost with Dr. Sears’ Zone products.

“I definitely feel good when I’ve been taking the EicoPro and SeaHealth consistently. I notice that I am able to recover more quickly from workouts, and my energy level in general seems higher,” she said.

Zone products that Becky is using in training include EicoPro Omega-3 Concentrate (four capsules daily), SeaHealth Plus (one ounce daily), Zone Bars (about one-two per day, before and after training), Zone Shakes (about one-two per day after a workout) Zone Cereal (an occasional breakfast), olive oil (“every time I cook!”) and Athlete Pro (one-two scoops in water bottle during workouts).

“I love the Roasted Peanut and Lemon Bars, the Zone Cereal and the strawberry Zone Shakes,” she said.

In the past Becky said she didn’t put a ton of emphasis on nutrition, but she’s doing that more and more, eating a balanced and healthy diet and staying away from junk food and sweets.

“I am learning how important it is to fuel your body with the right things to make it perform at its best,” she said. “Over the years, I have typically eaten meals similar to Zone meals. I try to focus on lean protein with veggies, and avoid adding too many starchy carbs to the meal (like bread or rice). I love avocado and almonds, and I include those in my diet almost every day. I have always been a big proponent of olive oil, cottage cheese, and spinach too.”

Her goal in 2008 is to win as many races as she can.

Becky believes her biggest athletic accomplishment to date was winning Escape from Alcatraz in 2006.

“That was the biggest one for me because I had always wanted to win it. I was second, third and fourth and then finally won,” she said. “I was almost brought to tears running through the finishing shoot because the crowd was amazing,, and I was so happy.”

Her favorite part of training is being fit and the feeling she gets during and after a workout when the endorphins are high. Her least favorite part of training “is getting up at 5:20 a.m. to swim!”

Here is a list of her extensive accomplishments:
