EicoPro has the maximum amount of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) of any Zone Labs product to generate higher levels DGLA (dihomo-gamma linolenic acid) than EicoRx. GLA converts to DGLA (dihomo-gamma linolenic acid) which is the building block of "good" anti-inflammatory eicosanoid hormones. However, it is also the building block of Arachadonic Acid which converts to "bad" pro-inflammatory eicosanoids. The elite athlete can tolerate higher levels of GLA in EicoPro because their high intensity workouts will burn off any excess GLA before it can be converted to AA.
For most athletes, taking EicoPro on a daily basis during periods of intense training is perfect. However, some of our athletes subjectively optimize the use of the OmegaRx (no GLA added) and EicoPro (GLA added). Here's an explanation:
GLA converts to DGLA (dihomo-gamma linolenic acid) which is the building block of "good" anti-inflammatory eicosanoid hormones. However, it is also the building block of Arachadonic Acid which converts to "bad" pro-inflammatory eicosanoids. The key to getting the most our of your fish oil Is find the right balance of GLA to maximize the production of anti-Inflammatory eicosanoids before there is "spillover" and your body begins to also produce excess Arachadonic Acid. Getting the optimal balance of AA and DGLA has been at the core of Dr. Sears’ research to optimize the balance of “good” and “bad” eicosanoids. Dr. Sears was aware of this more than 25 years ago. The simple solution was to add more of the omega-6 fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA) to the fish oil, which in turn would generate more DGLA. It turns out this was a lot more complicated than it first appeared because not everyone is genetically the same. Depending on your genetics, even trace amounts of GLA could be rapidly metabolized into AA. Eventually Dr. Sears found the answer in toasted sesame oil concentrates that contain a specific inhibitor that prevents added GLA from increasing AA levels. This is the key to all of our patented EPA/DHA concentrates. Using the right levels of GLA combined with EPA/DHA concentrates containing toasted sesame oil concentrates, the ability to optimally regulate “good” and “bad” eicosanoids is finally available.
Everyone is different, and that's why some of our athletes have found their own personal ratio of daily consumption of OmegaRx (no GLA added) and EicoRx (moderate GLA) during periods when they are not training hard. You could consider using the Eicosanoid Status Report found on DrSears.com to discover your own ratio of daily consumption of OmegaRx and EicoPro if you are looking to subjectively fine tune your use of Zone Labs' fish oil. |

Dr. Barry Sears, creator of the Zone Diet and founder of Zone Labs, coined the term "pharmaceutical grade fish oil" in his book The OmegaRx Zone. Over the last 25 years, he has been researching omega-3 long chain fatty acids and found them to be unsurpassed in the controlling chronic low-level inflammation. Studies suggest this inflammatory condition, brought on by an overabundance of Arachadonic Acid in the cells, could lead to heart, brain, cell and immune disorders. The high concentrations of EPA and DHA in Dr. Sears' OmegaRx®, EicoRx® and EicoPro® make them among the most powerful* fish oil concentrates available today.

Zone Labs products show no detectable lead or mercury when tested down to 10ppb, which is 10 times below the Norwegian Medicinal Standard and European Pharmacopoeia Standard limits. |
Zone Labs products are three times fresher than the minimum allowed by the Norwegian Medicinal Standard and European Pharmacopoeia Standards (based on average peroxide values). |
Zone Labs starts with only wild, small fish from pristine Chilean waters and ends with proprietary validation and testing processes to achieve an IFOS certified 5 star rating.
8-Step Manufacturing Process - Quality Assured
Testing to specification all raw materials, bulk products, packaging material and finished products – always using stringent internal standards and in-process testing.
- Extraction of fish oil
- Winterization – remove limited amounts of saturated fats
- Absorption – remove heavy metals
- Preliminary Molecular Distillation – refining “touch up” to reduce contaminants
- Oil conversion to ethyl esters
- Ethyl ester thermal fractionation – remove additional saturated fats
- True Molecular Distillation – final refining to remove pcb’s and long-chain monoenes
- Rigid Processes – proprietary validation, inspection and encapsulation methods. Independent lab verification of IFOS requirements and certified 5 star rating

No farmed fish. No large fish. Pristine waters.
Zone Labs starts with wild sardines & anchovies fished from cold, pristine waters off of South America where there are less environmental impurities.
A recommended serving of Zone Labs Ultra-Refined Concentrates delivers 8 times more omega-3’s than a typical retail fish oil supplement.
Most fish oil supplements have 30% or less of the healthy omega-3s EPA and DHA, with the remaining 70% of the capsule containing unbeneficial, lesser refined fatty acids that contribute to their bad taste and gastric side effects.
Getting a clinically valid dose of omega-3’s is easy with Zone Labs’ Ultra-Refined Omega-3 Concentrates.
Typical Retail Dose = 300mg omega-3
Standard Zone Dose = 2400mg omega-3
A serving of canned tuna has 12 times less omega-3’s than Zone Labs Ultra-Refined Omega-3 Concentrates
