I am having a problem with inflamation of my stomach lining and loss of blood. I have been told of another person who like me has been on the zone diet for the last six months and she is also experiencing inflamation in the stomach. Is this just a coincidence or are their others who have had this problem? Like this other person I am slender and did not need to lose any weight. She has been found to be anemic and I have just had blood tests to see if I am. No results from the blood tests. We have both experienced blood in our stools and have both had colonoscopy procedures with the results of inflamaation of my colon in one spot. They then did the test where they put the probe through the mouth to look at the stomach and upper intestine and they found inflamation in both of us. I have a high matabolism rate and have no problem with weight gain except around my waist which is no longer the problem. I have also lost muscle mass and have not been tested for bone density loss. Thanks for any advice, Greatzin

Did the problem start before or after starting the zone. It is peculiar that your friend has the same thing as you and it on the zone as well. If you think you are anemic, you should look at your diet. Red meat has a high digestible source of iron, so maybe try and work that into your meals.

It's probably a coincidence that you friend is on the Zone and has a similar problem with inflammation. It sounds like you aren't getting enought protein since you're losing LBM (or maybe you aren't fully digesting the protein you eat if your digestive problem is severe). I suggest you make sure you are meeting the protein requirements for your LBM and activity level on a daily basis, and work with your drs to correct your digestive problems. Best of luck to you. Sue
