Hi: Question: if I ate a cup of almonds (hypothetically... well, sort of hypothetically  ) it has 48 g of fat, 18 g of carb and 22 g of protein. So would I count that as 50 fat blocks or as 2 carb blocks, 3 protein blocks, and 32 fat blocks? And could you explain why? Thanks! (it wasn't a whole cup. okay, maybe it was.) Jesse.

Jesse, As per the zone rules 1 fat block = 3 grams fat 1 carb block = 9 grams 1 protein block = 7 grams so your almonds would be 16 fat blocks (48/3), 2 blocks carbs (18/9) and 3 blocks protein (22/7).

Jesse, After reading my post i want to make a correction. You do not need to count the protein as blocks unless from soy so disregard the protein count completley. Sorry for the confusion.

And the reason you count them solely in terms of their fat when you're adding up your daily blocks is because the protein/carb component doesn't quite register? I guess what I'm asking is whether you go by x grams=y blocks or x food=y blocks.

The only time with the zone diet that you count protein unless it is specifically from an animal source is if it comes from soy. Most other proteins are not digested the same so they are not absorbed by the body. So in answer to your question: xfoods = yblocks.
