If I'm dropping a carb block per meal and adding a fat block per meal to lower my insulin would this example make sense?:
3 oz of chicken
1 apple
2 teaspoons of peanut butter |

Hi,
Yes, the meal you describe would fit the scenario for dropping one carb block and adding one fat block. But keep in mind that the adjustment you are referring to, usually includes droppog 1C an adding [b:2bb0b330de] 3F[/b:2bb0b330de], not 1 F. In this case you would want to have a total of [b:2bb0b330de]3 teaspoons[/b:2bb0b330de] (one tablespoon) of peanut butter.
If you're trying the adjustment because your wt loss has plateaued but you still have excess stored body fat, or because you're carb sensitive, you'll probably have more success with lowering your insulin level if you also substitute a block of favorable veggies for half of the apple.

Thanks for the reply,
So...I'm to double or triple the fat? Please get back to me on this one!
Favorable veggies are a better option due to less sugars than fruits I suppose...that makes sense!
Thanks, |

Hi,
Usually 3 monounsaturated fat blocks are added when dropping one carb block. Although the Zone is not a calorie counting diet, it is a vey low calorie diet. The 3 additional blocks of fat contain about the same number of calories as one carb block. By adding 3 blockds of fat you don't end up too low in calories. One of the other advantages of adding fat is the additional contol fat gives by slowing the enrty of carbs into the blood stream.

Okay...so what's the total number of grams of fat if I'm dropping one block of carbohydrates and adding 3 more blocks of fat? Is it 18 grams of fat total, not the usual 9 grams?
Please let me know so I can lose a little weight! :-)

Hi,
For a 3 block meal it would be a total of 13.5 g (the original 9g, half of which were hidden in the P source, plus 3 additional blocks of 1.5 g each).
