[color=darkred:9a3b6a6799]Hi,
I purchased a copy the new book by Barry Sears, "The Anti-Inflammation Zone", at Barnes and Noble on Saturday. I've only had a chance to quickly glance over it. Along with the basics and an in depth look at silent inflammation and how it is impacted by the Zone, it also has some practical things in it like a point system for carbs, a method to get "non-exercisers" to work out to 1/2 hour TV shows, and meditation /relaxation alternatives.
I'm wondering if anyong else has it yet? If you've read it, what's your opinion of it of it? [/color:9a3b6a6799] |

Hi Sue :D
I bought it on Dec 26 and skimmed it that night. It's the best all-around Zone book for a first-timer to buy.
Regarding the Glycemic Load point system, it's an evolution of some suggestions made in the OmegaRxZone. Following those suggestions closely for the last 6 months, my post-Christmas TC measured 169 and my TG/HDL less than 1. So, it works for me!
Best wishes to all. I'll drop by again somewhere down the line. -C. |

I just bought it also. I am impressed with it. Dr. Sears has simplified the explanations from his previous books and added new information (he also added carrots to the preferred list --Yea! He listens to us). I liked his expanded exercise examples and expanded meditation techniques.
The point system for carbs would not do me much good, since I already use the block/gram method and only eat favorable carbs. However, I can see its value when trying to eat away from home as a way to get a handle on how many carbs you are eating (especially from unfavorable sources). This is probably the biggest challenge for most Zoners. The hand-eye method does not work very well when only unfavorable carbs are available to choose from.
I will have to edit some of my own info and posts with his new findings. This is the best book for a new Zoner.
I was not impressed that all the foods in the tables are still measured only in volume and not also in grams --but what the hey, I already made a conversion table for anyone who wants to use it. |

Dennis,
Where could one get a copy of your gram conversion table? I just got a new digital food scale for Christmas, and I'm already using the heck out of it. So it would be great to know the grams of blocks.
I have my copy of the Anti-Inflammation Zone on the way from Amazon - it's supposed to get here today. I am looking forward to reading it.
Thanks,
Christy |

Overall it is a very good book. My personal favorite was Omega RX, but this is an excellent one as well since it expands the original argument with more research.
I first learned of the Zone through my wife's aunt several years ago. What I like is that this is not a "flash in the pan" idea. Dr Sears has stuck with it, and continues to research and promote this methodology. |
