Hi, I have some Fage 0% Total Plain Greek Yogurt that I would like to use. The nutrition info is as follows: 1 cup 130 calories 0 fat 9g carbs 9g sugar 23g protein (No added sugar in the ingredients by the way.) So am I correct in assuming that this can be considered a protein source since there is at least twice the amount of protein than carbs? If so, for a 2 block snack, I'm thinking about 3/5 cup would equal about 14g protein. I would then just needs 2 blocks of carbs and 2 blocks of fat: maybe 1 cup of raspberries, 1/2 cup blueberries, and 6 almonds (chopped). Can someone please confirm that I have this correct? Thank you! |

On the Zone we consider dairy products as a combination of protein and carbohydrate. Therefore, your Fage yogurt contains a little more than 3 blocks of protein (one block of protein = 7g). We balance the 3 blocks of protein with 3 blocks of carb and 3 blocks of fat or 9g. A complete block of fat = 3g. Note Since the yogurt contains one block of carb (9g) you’ll have to add in 2 more blocks of carb and no fat you’ll need to and 3 complete blocks of fat, or 9g.

Makes perfect sense. So for 3 blocks, I could do... 1 cup yogurt (3 blocks Protein, 1 block Carbs), 1 cup raspberries (1 block Carbs), 1/2 cup blueberries (1 block Carbs), and 3 tsp. of peanut butter Do I have that right? Thanks so much for the help! |
