Hi - I have a couple of quick questions from a newbie to the Zone Diet.

    1. If I need to eat 4 blocks, is it a requirement to eat all the carbs? For example, I have 4 oz of chicken, some olives, and 1 ½ cups of green beans for dinner. According to the chart, I can have more carbs. But, this dinner fills me up. Do I need to eat ALL the carbs for a block?
    2. Can almonds be substituted for protein and good fat at once? I try to have my afternoon snack on my commute. So, would 9 ( or more maybe ) almonds and an apple suffice? Since most of the protein needs to be refrigerated, having protein is hard on the road.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Rusty,

    1. Yes, to get the correct hormonal response you'll need to have Zone balanced proportions of protein, carbohydrate and fat each time you eat. response. If 4P, 4C, 4F is too much food for you at one sitting, try more frequent smaller meals, but keep those Zone proportions in place. Try 2P, 2C 2F or 3P, 3C, 3F. Be sure to get you full block requirement each day.

    2. Almonds should not be used as a protein substitute in a Zone meal or snack. Plant foods are not considered as protein for Zone meals or snack because availability of plant protein to be absorbed in the human digestive tract varies. Zone cookies, bars and shakes are my choice for easy portable Zone meals and snacks that don't require refrigeration.

Thanks, Sue!! I appreciate your fast response. And you already answered some of my follow up questions.

Looks like I have not been doing it totally right, but I'm learning! I will have to look for some Zone bars/snacks, that's a great idea!

Look no further because they're available right here on this site. Zone Labs foods are not sold in stores.
