I'm a half and full ironman triathlete and I just read "Mastering the Zone".

I'm curious as to how I should apply “The Zone” to my training.

How do I apply “The Zone” to long bike rides(3+ hours) and racing(4-10 hours, depending on distance)? With that much swimming, biking, and running it's necessary to take in calories while on the bike. I used to consume about 250 calories an hour of Ensure + shake while cycling (my stomach doesn’t handle solid well during exercise during long bike rides and races)

Do I make my bike nutrition part of my existing blocks or should that be an additional block?

How does recovery nutrition fit into “The Zone”? Do I make it part of my existing blocks or should that be an additional block?

Hello Clyde. I'm trying to figure all this out myself, and how it will work with extreme physical activity. I wish I could help you more. But, I was curious if you have the book and have read it yet. Last night I read a chapter and it was talking about how your body likes to burn fat as energy during physical activity, and it related body fat percentage to amount of potential energy. Very eye opening. Thougt that might help you.
Trying to get better every day!

I would suggest you read this.

Remember once you have your daily block requirements that you will need to make small adjustments.

We are all different and our own bodies peak performance may be found by an extra block of Protein, fat or maybe an extra block of carbs.

I feel it is extremely important for us all to journal when we first start the Zone, but especially someone who is training at
levels like yours. Below I have some helpful resources for you
