    Hi,

I cannot find these in the Zone book, and I feel it is missing out these very common food groups - Lentils and Dairy. Can someone provide an insight on these?

Are lentils allowed in the Zone? To what extent in the Zone Pyramid? Sparingly, moderately or liberally?

Sure they're carbs but they are some sort of starchy grains in the end, I guess. And they are low GI too.

Also, how about Dairy - Milk, Cheeses etc. They provide significant quantities of P, C and F. Are they allowed, and how much?

    Thanks.

they are on the Zone Blocks Guide that you can download at http://www.zonediet.com/tools/zone-classic . Lentils are favorable carbs (1/4 cup = 1 block). Lowfat/nonfat milk is listed as favorable (1 block P, 1 block C). Nonfat cheese (1 oz = 1 P block) & cottage cheese (1/4 cup = 1 P block) are favorable.

As with all food, you have to see how it effects you. I take a lot of dairy and it works well for me. The lentils are probably best in moderation (1/4 cup per meal).

I certainly eat lentils...they are high in nutrients and I can use curry in them, which is a godd source of the antioxidant tumeric. I also eat lots of 0% fat greek yogurt...preferably the plain (no flavor) which I add stevia and lemon-lime juice to.
I USED to drink a fair amount of fat-free milk, but it is acidic, while yogurt is much less acidic. I may still drink small amounts in the summer if I need a quick cold snack away from home.
