I'm Sharon from the Western NY area. I don't see an "Intro" forum so I figured I'd post here.

I've discovered The Zone Diet very recently. I've suffered for years with fatigue, being overweight, sleep apnea and recently have started to have horrible pain in my feet when I get up from sitting. It would take a few minutes of walking in pain for my feet to stop hurting enough to walk normally. I've bought inserts for my shoes which helped a bit but walking had become somewhat of an embarrassing struggle.

I have a friend on FB who recently posted how much better she was feeling with her new way of eating. She mentioned her pain being gone along with other benefits. Someone asked what she was doing and she mentioned the Anti-inflammation diet.

So I looked into it and couldn't find a lot on the web and ended up at the library borrowing the book The Anti-Inflammation Zone which I have been reading over the last week.

The only thing I've done so far is to take 4 tsp of cod liver oil daily and I added another supplement that my sister-in-law told me about. I've also been cutting out the oils that you aren't supposed to use (safflower, corn, veg etc). My feet still hurt a bit but I am now able to walk normally for the most part with much less pain.

I'm so interested in the Anti-Inflammtion Diet. I can't believe that I haven't heard of it before. It seems like the best thing I've ever found.

I can't wait to learn more and put this into practice. I'm interested in getting to know others here on the forum or in real life. I live in the Buffalo NY area.

If there is a more appropriate place to post this, I"d be happy to move it. Just let me know. Thanks.
My pic is a silly pic of me from a few years ago. It's the only one I had of me on this laptop.

    Nice to meet you Sharon!

I'm glad you found the Zone. I hardly know where to start to tell you all the good changes the have happened for me in my almost 18 years "in the Zone". The short list, I lost 100 pounds (from size 22 to size 8), I no longer have high blood pressure (previously has hypertension which was uncontrolled by meds), I'm stronger with more energy than I've ever had, and the stiffness and other little aches and pains of my pre-Zone days are gone. The Zone works, and it has literally changed the path of my entire life.

It's great that you've changed your oils already. It's of the utmost importance to avoid omaga 6 fats, such as the ones you mentioned, and replace them with monounsaturated fat (almonds, olive oil, avocado, etc.). One change you'll probably want to make ASAP is to switch toe cod liver oil to an ultra-refined fish oil concentrate. This type of fish oil is not available in stores. Omega RX is your best bet. For the most benefit take it with one of the Zone polyphenols. I highly recommend using Zone "At-a-Glance" to put together Zone meals. It's the way I lost the 100 pounds. http://www.zonediet.com/tools/zone-classic

Wow Sue, thank you for all the info and the links.

It's great to know that you lost 100 lbs because that's about what I have to lose. I sure hope this will work for me. I really believe it will.

I got married a year ago and was disappointed to have to be a larger sized bride. It was funny because we got engaged back in 2006 but I held off partly because I wanted to be thinner. But I ended up putting on 40 more lbs before we ended up getting married. I should have done it while I had the chance

I can't wait to learn more.

You're welcome, Sharon. Most of the links are pages on this site, but I thought I'd show you some places to begin because I know it can sometimes be overwhelming to take it all in at first. Large or small, you'll still be the wonderful person you already are. For the best weight loss results focus on the health benefits. Try to let go of the typical ideas about weight loss diets and just go with it. The Zone books are great for learning more. I have all of them. I use them as text books. They're excellent resources, full of information. Since you're already reading, or have read, THE ANTI-INFLAMMATION ZONE, next I'd suggest reading the most recent Zone book, TOXIC FAT, by Barry Sears. It explains the Zone and how it has evolved to be what it is today and gives you the complete picture.

Thanks for the recommendation, Sue. I look forward to reading more and Toxic Fat seems like a great place to start after this book. I'm going to look it up on Amazon now to learn more about it.

The Zone Diet is an excellent anti-inflammation diet. Basically, the cornerstones of an anti-inflamation diet are very similar to the Zone, but goes a bit further with the elimination of processed foods, grain, sugar, and sometimes dairy. Fish oil supplementation is definitely a great thing to do in terms of antiinflammation.

I have a close friend at work who is controlling her fibromyalgia by eliminating grains and processed foods. She does not follow a strict zone plan, but she eats very similar to the Zone.
