Suzanne, from what I understand my BS numbers were in the lower end, 126,116 etc. So my doc stated if I could lose the weight and maintain my diet I would more than likely be able to come off the meds, I also have high cholesterol and am on med for that grrr... I do not like to take meds, so my goal is to GET OFF MEDS. I have been trying to lose weight for the last year and it was so easy to say, "oh, tomorrow" now this has become a lifestyle change and my mindset is totally different!! My dr actually told me to do the Zone. My concern is he will expect me to lose a lot of wt and I have never been very small. So I am gonna assume with the Zone I will lose till my body is satisified? I am 5'1 1/2" and the charts have me at like a skeleton!! any thoughts out there?

I had not had the added problem of Diabetes[
however, after 3 months on Zone and High Quality Fish Oil,
I was able to lower my cholesterol from 284 to 204 in 3 months.
I hate having to take meds too, and after my Dr. prescribing 20 mg Zocor back in April 2004,
it was the last straw, and led me to the Zone and Fish Oil and 3 months later an improvement in my Cholesterol.
Hang in there!

Hi Betty,

About the two heads of lettuce, yes it takes a lot of lettuce to make 1 Zone block. This info basically lets you know that lettuce in the amounts typically eaten in a normal sized meal is insignificant in the larger picture and doesn't really need to be considered in your carbohydrate intake. Think of it as a freebie.

Betty,

About your weight loss question, use the Body Fat Calculator on this site to track your fat loss. http://www.zonediet.com/tools/body-...calculator

When you reach 22% body fat, considered the ideal for a female, you add a little more monounsaturated fat to your meals to prevent further fat loss.

SUE, THANK YOU FOR THE RESPONSE! Y'ALL ARE ALL AWESOME AT HELPING, SUCH A BLESSING! AND I LIKE THE SALAD FREEBIE, WITH A LIL FRESH LEMON JUICE YOU HAVE A FREE SNACK? I DOWNLOADED AND PRINTED THE MEAL JOURNAL AND I REALIZED I WASN'T EATING ENOUGH! I WAS EATING ONLY 1 BLOCK PER GROUP AND WAS GETTING FULL!! OF COURSE I REALIZE IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO FUEL MY BODY. GOOD GRIEF IT TAKES ALL I CAN DO TO EAT MY 11 BLOCKS, I AM ALWAYS STUFFED WHEN I GET DONE EATING! IS THIS NORMAL? PLUS I DRINK AROUND 90-120 OZ OF WATER A DAY.

Betty, many people feel stuffed at first. The trick is to choose carbohydrates of varying densities. That will help change your meal volume. For example, you could make an average sized meal of 3 oz grilled chicken breast, 1 cup spaghetti squash topped with 1/2 cup tomato sauce and a drizzle of olive oil and 1/2 cup blueberries for dessert.

I think it's usually about 1/4 cup of egg beaters for 1 P block, but check the label for be sure (7 g protein = 1 P block). Since egg beaters are usually fat free, you'll need to add at least 1 extra fat block or ever block of eggbeaters you use in a meal. This will provide the correct amount of fat for a one balanced meal. Other common fat free Zone protein sources are deli-style meats, fat free dairy and protein powder.
