Good afternoon everyone. This is my zillion time trying the zone diet.. I did it before, using the block method and it worked the first time because I was commited to do it perfectly and I was also younger. I am going to re-start and hopefully this one is going to be the good one. I am going to try to visit more often and to keep journaling. My starting weight is 233.8. I am 5'5" and I am 37. I will try to use this thread for my updates and I am looking forward to read your post. Have a great week all! |

Hi Christine! It's great to see you back here again. Try Zone At-a-Glance this time (you know, dividing the plate into thirds and adding a little dash of monounsaturated fat). It's the way I lost all the weight many years ago, and the way I still eat. Since you know the block method already, you can keep it in mind when filling your plate according to "At-a-Glance", but no need to count and measure everything. Have fun with it! |

Welcome Christine! If you need some help or just plan ol' support, We are here for you. I like using the block method because it keeps me "true" to the portion sizes. :) |

Thank you to both of you.. I will do the block method as well.. same reason, I hate using the scale but I am true with portion this way.. and I am always surprised after a few weeks (now I have to get to this few weeks) how I can be feeling full with this small amount of food sometimes, but I know this is because it is well balanced. Yesterday had 13 blocks.. too much but better to be 13 blocks well balanced than pizza, poutine and cakes... |

Welcome back, Christine. Using the scale, even occasionally, as I do, helps me keep the portion amounts/sizes in perspective. Otherwise the Veggie sizes might shrink over time and the Protein sizes tend to grow over time! << GRIN >> So, to keep myself in check, every now and then I will put the portion that I eye-balled on the scale, just to keep myself in check! |

I am only at day # 3 and couldn't resit to check the scale this am.. I know this is only water weight but it said: 228.8 down 5 pounds already... really motivating.. I sitll have the head aches, must be redrawl from all crap sugar and release of a.a. in blood stream which Dr Sears talks in his book but that I really don't understand ... not sure what it is but it must be a good sign.. I am really motivated today.... |

Go Christine! Basically there's some AA, the "bad" fat that increases inflammation, stored in your fat cells. When you first begin to lose stored fat this AA is released and as it floods into your system some people get headaches from it or feel crummy in general. You're right that it's a good sign, because, if you headaches are from AA release it shows you're burning stored fat, even if it doesn't feel so good for the moment. Good job! |

Christine, I think you are doing awesome! Makes me also reflect on where I am at, when you mentioned headaches. Not sure if you were following my other thread, but I had recently stopped taking NSAIDS because of the negative effect on my eicosanoid balance. So, a few weeks ago, I had noticed some headaches, I normally never even experience headaches. Now it is all resolved, but in retrospect, I am thinking that maybe it was related to AA release, as well? Will see, still monitoring how this all goes! |

First week doing the zone doing really good I think. Lost 7.2 pounds. I know this is also water weight but still feel better already! Yesterday, I had my friend Luc over for supper. He was telling me how this is bad to eat before bed time.. I am not concern for me, but sometimes find it hard to explain to people why this is actually important to have a bed time snack... Did enjoy my movie night with him, hope this wasn't the last one... Other than this, looking forward to my second week.. I have been using my scale everyday this week which I think is a good way to start back on the zone. This is week, I want to try to drink a little more water, I did drink just enough but could try to upper this.. Have a great week! |

This is what I understand about the late night snack... Without it, its too long of a fast between dinner and breakfast. In the early morning, the liver releases glucagon, which raises blood sugar, thus raising insulin levels. |
