I've had neck pain for over 30 years. I got an x-ray of my neck, yesterday, and the doctor said I have moderate arthritis, a little disc deterioration, commensurate with my age of 59, and a slight curvature which wouldn't be the cause of pain. He said to treat with anti-inflammatories, heat, stretching, etc. I asked about an MRI but he said it would be hard to get it approved by my insurance based on my x-ray and moderate pain level and that it probably wouldn't reveal anything different than the x-ray. I don't have swelling like you would see in rheumatoid arthritis. I have the OmegaRX Zone book. Dr Sears says in it that arthritis should be helped by fish oil so I'm thinking of upping my dose from 8 to 16 pills in about a month when my next autoship arrives. I'm posting this to see if anyone has experience with using high doses of fish oil + the Zone Diet to cure arthritis. ?? |

Everyone's perception of pain will be different, and so an incremental increase of fish oil would be in order. Have you done any testing yet? You can follow the recommendations as in the book. The question that I had about using NSAIDs and what the impact is pb your eicosanoid balance would certainly apply to you, as well |

Hi Cranberry - I haven't done the aa/epa test, yet. I'm not taking any pain medications. I get some pain relief from a couple of new agey, electronic devices. |

Well, at least for now, you were able to rule out a "mechanical" cause of the pain. My belief, at this stage, is that you can approach this as an "inflammatory" condition, and theoretically fish oil dosing may be helpful. Depending on how you feel about it, you could ask for an Omega-3 test now or after you change your fish oil dosing, if you choose to do so. If you have already been taking fish oil, I think it would be worthwile to get a baseline established to see where you are at right now, and that might help you to decide on how much to increase (if needed). |

Larry, I'd suggest trying 12 capsules Omega Rx daily. It's the recommendation for chronic pain (refer to Toxic Fat). About the experiences of others, my cousin has had severe arthritis which began with a bicycle accident in her teenage years. By her 50's she was unable to climb the stairs to the second floor of her house and she was taking a large dose of Celebrex daily. By three weeks after starting the Zone diet with 12 capsules Omega Rx daily her pain was gone and her doctor advised her to stop the Celebrex.

I have scoliosis. Only recent;y, in the last 2 years, have i begun to get bad neck pain. I COULD have been caused by a car wreck, BUT that wreck was over 8 years ago and I felt no pain i the neck afterwards. I, too, wanna x-ray. I'm only 42. I did wear a back brace in jr. high for the scoliosis. If ya' find a cure, let me know. I don't think I have arthritis yet, though. I'm also not sure if chiropractors are kooks or not. I've heard too many negative things about them. I DID used to crack my neck alot and no longer do...but, I could've damaged something over many 'crackings'! |

good thing you somehow cope up with the situation, Wynn. I guess there are many people who give support that's why you have a good confidence and motivation. |

Some chiropractors are just out for money, others are worth their fee. My wife and I found one by accident who has helped both of us immensely. Ours, she is very health conscious and aware. And she explains everything, and her diet, health, and exercise fits with ours. She is very Paleo (so very close to the Zone.) And she has made a difference, unlike past (SHORT by choice) experiences with previous Chiropractor after a car accident, many years ago. Happened to meet our chiropractor while kayaking ... I've posted a few other posts here, regarding benefits and my personal results, if interested, you can search ...
