I can't locate my old copy of ETZ. Can anyone post the block calculation formula for women? I've been back to the Zone for over a month and it's just not working with my workouts. I'm tired all the time, not foggy from over carbs just exhausted. At the advise of non-Zoners this week I added some bad carbs to try to bring up my daily carbs to see if that worked. I did feel better. First month I have lost inches but only 3 pounds and have plenty of body fat that could accessed for wt loss. My thought is back to basics and then adjust as necessary. |

I don't have my book handy, but why go through all of the work? Just use the calculator on the website, it does all of the work for you. Sounds like you are making some progress, losing inches is more meaningful than the scale weight. What is your meal timing like relative to your workouts? |

Cherilyn, The Body Fat Calculator in on this site (in Tools) is the same formula. Since ETZ was written, Dr. Sears has stated no adult should eat less ten 11 blocks a day, and the minimum is included in the calculator.. |

Thanks guys. The site calculator does not ever change no matter what activity level I enter. In fact, it does not change if I even vary my weight by 30 pounds-- which I know is not a Zone principal. My thought was to do a hand calculation to see where I should be. I understand the change from 8 daily block minimum to 11 but as a petite it makes no sense to me to eat the same amount if I am a couch potato or active. |

The problem is that even after you do your hand-calculations, you still need the table in the book (unless the formula for the figures in the table are printed somewhere--I am not sure). I just tried my own stats to see what would happen with the change in activity factor, and it is changing for me. It might be a technical issue. I would recommend that you call in to customer support, they can certainly do the calculations for you, and ascertain if there is a problem with the online calculator, or what the issue might be (it would not be the first time that the online calculator has misfunctioned, so it would be good to call it in and report the issue, so that it can be fixed if broken).

It is nice to be able to compute this all on your own. Sometimes it is beneficial to see how close you are to the "breaking point". For instance, when I calculate my own, I am at 11 blocks for sedentary through active. If I enter "very active", I jump to 13 blocks! So, I usually eat 11-12 blocks, that gives me an extra block for my post-workout snack. |

Cherilyn, If you'd like to post the measurements you need the factors for, I'll be happy to look them up and post the factors. I have access to all the tables. Regardless, you should stick with the 11 block minimum. Dr. Sears uses that minimum to assure adults get all the nutrients they need. If you used to get 8 blocks for a result when calculating by hand and your activity has not significantly increased, you could try a minimum of 10 blocks, but I would not advise to going lower then 10. |
