hi John, I read somewhere where you said getting adjustments helped your allergies a lot. I'm curious ... do you mind expanding on that? What exactly did you have done? Thanks Sarah |

I had just met a chiropractor while paddling. After X-Rays, here are several areas in my back neck. From birth and from a car accident about 15-17 years ago. After she started doing adjustments, she mentioned to me that she would not be surprised if my seasonal allergies (hayfever) dissipated some what if not a lot. And this Spring, after seeing her regularly for my adjustments, I had NONE! I think one day with a slightly itchy throat and one other day with slightly itchy eyes. It was a bad year as was last Spring for pollen. YET, normally in the Spring I am on constant antihistamines for 3 to 4 weeks! . I also have year round allergy to dust mites. BUT that became a little alleviated, first, when we moved from a humid climate to a dryer climate. And, second, since I had been on the ZONE. I still have that, but hardly ever have any problems, esp, since we keep our bedroom dusted and vacuumed, and have virtually no carpets in the house. Adjustments might have helped those, too - don;t know - symptoms had been so rare in last few years, hard to tell if the chiropractic adjustments have had any effect. |

That's interesting ... I was seeing a chiropractor, but my fibromyalgia was so bad at the time she said I needed to eliminate wheat and dairy products (which I've done) etc .. I'll go back to her after I continue to tweak my zone diet more and maybe it'll help me too. Wow you had really really bad allergies!!!! I have bad allergies right now. I thought we couldn't take several antihistamines per day? I use Reactine extra strength. Yes, a dryer climiate would help, and keeping bedrooms vaccuumed and dusted, no carpets, etc ... these do make a real difference ... I'm delighted for you--and for me!--that you don't have symptoms anymore. I hope this happens to me too!! Thanks for sharing your story!! Sarah |

I do not like taking drugs! I never take (sorry took now lol) the 24 hour kind ... When it (Dust Mites) was first diagnosed and regular (way back when), I was prescribed Claritin-D 12 hour. I was lucky if it lasted 8 - 10 hours. During hayfever season, the 12 hour only lasted 6 hours! Long enough to wear off after taking before bedtime when pollen is at it worst for me, 3-4 in the morning. So, doctor switched me to Allegra-D 12 hour. Unlike Claritin which took effect right away, Allegra takes 10 - 20 minutes to start working on me. However, I recall the first time I took it, it wore off exactly at 12 hours. And during hayfever season, about 10-12 hours! . I was getting a prescription of 180 pills at a time, but only took them at night, when Dust Mite allergies acted up. But, took one also at day time during strong hayfever season. About a few years ago, before they became over the counter, after moving to dryer climate, and then on the Zone for a while, I nearly stopped taking them, except at night during hayfever season. During the lighter portion of hayfever season, I took the generic, over-the-counter 4 hour anithistamines, instead. I haven't touched the Allegra I have left in a couple of years, except for 1 pill or two now and then during hayfever season, or if our bedroom gets really dusty and we do not get to it. The we clean it the next day. (Too bust kayaking, bicycling, and before Piriformis Syndrome showed up, Hiking on weekends!). And, as I stated, I only had to take 1 4 hour over-the-counter antihistamine pill twice this (now over) hayfever season.. . What country, city do you live in? My Chiropractor is more of a natural, understands silent inflammation, etc. Knew a friend in Singapore when I went there on business and referred me to him. Went ot school and they studied together. She just might be able to find some one in your city or country?

I don't like taking drugs, either, so I understand how you feel! Ok, so Allegra-D 12 hour worked better for you? I can try that ... I know I'm allergic to horses, I have bad reactions when I go in the barns too, is that hayfever???? I know for sure I have a grass allergy. Does Allegra-D work for a grass allergy? My chicopractor isn't a Zoner, she does talk about inflammation though, she says my fibromyalgia is due to inflammation. And my fibromyalgia is so much better now than it was before I eliminated wheat and dairy products from my diet, plus went on the zone diet. You had really bad allergies, but they don't exist anymore ... awesome! Do you have lawns that are mowed regularly at your place? How is that affecting you? It's affecting me big time, so I'm trying to do something about it. Sarah |

I used to take a 4-hour antihistamine pill before I had to cut my own yard. I've cut (mowed) our grass (yard) several times this year with NO problems. All thanks to my chiropractor. Your spine holds the nerves which convey all of the info from brain to body and body to brain. She knew by where my spine and neck were mis-aligned either from the car accident or from being born prematurely/genes/whatever, that I would probably have less symptoms. But not too have nay was truly surprising. |

Allegra-D was not always so great with hayfever, but worked better than most. Of course, since it was prescribed, there are other types of antihistimines, like Zyrtec in this country (USA). Though I look for the generic equivalent, but have not had enough symptoms now to have to try and determine which one works best. What bugged me when Claritin, and then Allegra went non-prescription in this country, they only made it in 24 hour! Prescription drugs, some, unlike the old days, are now allowed to go non-prescription if FDA warrants, before patent runs out. So they can get a market share jump over the expected (and cheaper) generic versions. 24 hours of medication is / oops WAS too much for me ...

I look at the main active ingredient in Claritin, Allegra, and Ztrtec - and look for the generic equivalent.

Ok, this is good info. Why is it a problem to have a 24-hour allergy pill? Sarah |

Because it is rare that I needed (notice past tense ha-ha) to take drugs/medicine/chemicals for a 24-hour period. And on the rare times I needed some day and night, I would have rather taken two 12 hour, instead. What if I took a 24 hour and did not need the antihistimine for the additional 12 hours? Am I some one who likes to be in control, YES, esp when my health is concerned. |

LOL ... I do see that you are very proactive about your health, definitely, and want to in control of your life, definitely. As for control ... I'm sure you, being happily married 26 years, know perfectly well you can't control your spouse! :-) :-) :-) Sandra |
