Hi! I am confused about content of some Omega 3 capsules I bought, and what they contain.
The recommendation is that I take 7 mg of Omega 3 per day. The vendor makes a number of claims about high quality etc. 7

On the label it says (translated)

    Content 1 capsule:
    Concentrated fish oil 1000 mg
    Total omega-3-fat acids* 630 mg
    - of which EPA** 300 mg
    - of which DHA*** 200 mg
    - of which DPA**** 30 mg
    - additional fat acids 100 mg

    Does anyone understand this fully?
Is it as simple as taking 7 (??!) of these tablets per day, or am I missing something?

    Hi Hannah,

Dr. Sears' recomendations are made in grams of EPA plus DHA. One capsule of the product you quoted contains 300 mg of EPA and 200 mg of DHA, or 500 mg (.5 grams) of EPA plus DHA. You would have to take 14 of those capsules to receive a total of 7g EPA plus DHA. Dr Sears recommen to take an ultra-refined fish oil concentrate with a 2:1 EPAHA in a 60% concentration that has attained the IFOS 5 star rating. IFOS = International Fish Oil Standards. You can go to the IFOS web site to read which batches of which brands of fish oil have met their stringent requirements. This type of fish oil would contain 400 mg EPA and 200mg DHA. With only 300 mg EPA per capsule, your brand falls a bit short of this requirement.

You have 630mg of Omega-3 or 500mg of combined EPA/DHA.
DR. Sears recommendation of combined EPA/DHA for quality/purity is at least 60%.
Yours is better than most available at 50%, but ...
    .
With what you have, 7 grams of Omega-3 (combined EPA & DHA) would be 14 capsules per day.
    1000mg (milligrams) = 1 gram

In my last post that should read 2:1 EPA to DHA. My colon followed by a D was displayed as an emoticon. :/

Why are you buying a Fish Oil from anywhere else than from Dr. Sears. Every day we have people who say they tried others and they can not believe the difference that Dr Sears ultra refined fish oil makes. Here is the outline of our product.

More than 2400mg of EPA & DHA per serving
No detectable levels of lead or mercury when tested down to 10ppb
Independent 3rd party testing on every lot - view our most recent report
Proprietary validation and testing processes to achieve pharmaceutical-grade quality
Contains only wild fish from pristine waters and never farmed fish
Delivers 8 times more omega-3s per serving than typical retail fish oil supplements
Developed by Dr. Barry Sears, an internationally-recognized expert in fish oil research

Ok, but do you have a distributor in Sweden or anywhere else in the EU?
I don't want to pay a fortune in import tax and shipping. In my experience anyone buying products from the USA and shipping to the EU ends up paying about double the price that American customers pay.

If not, it does not make much sense to buy these products.
I am sure they are absolutely excellent, but there will be somebody else who makes excellent fish oil too.

Oops sorry, did not mean to be rude, I realise now that one of the purposes of this site is to sell the Dr Sears brand of Fish oil.
Like I said, it sounds absolutely excellent and if there is a distributor in Europe that allows me to buy it without having to pay the additional import tax and transatlantic shipping, then I am definitely interested.
Else, I'll go with whichever one of the 5 star brands from the IFOS website that is available in Sweden, the UK or Germany.

I talked to Patty (int'l sales)... She said generally 3-5 days to get to you. I would recommend getting a 6 to 12 month supply and avoid the shipping cost of multiple shipments per year. There is also a source for our product in Sweden http://www.vitaminer.nu/

I used many different brands of Fish Oil before coming to work with Dr. Sears. I can honestly say none of those other brands had the positive effect on me like OmegaRX.

Just to let you all know that I placed an order for 2x40 days supply of Dr Sears OmegaRX tablets with VITAMINER.NU - which is a reseller of Dr Sears products in Sweden.
For anyone reading this in Scandinavia - this site is probably the best source of supplements based in our part of Europe.
The assortment available in regular Scandinavian healt hfood shops is rather unimpressive compared with Germany or the UK.
I was able to buy several anti-inflammatory herbs from vitaminer.nu that I have been unable to find anywhere else in Sweden.
Now awaiting the delivery which should be a few days..

Received my OmegaRX yesterday, and now I am going to have to work out how many to take of those, to get 7 gram a day, instead.
If anyone knows the answer off the top of their head, please shout to save me having to overwork my brain.... :-)

Thanks! But only 2 less than the 14 capsules required of the "less refined"? Hm!
I thought I had miscalculated, that's why I asked. Had expected it to be a lower figure since the Dr Sears tablets are supposed to be miles ahead of the competition.
12 capsules of super refined fish oil per day............ with this size dose it had better not have ANY nasty side effects that I don't know of.
    It really feels very extreme.

Dr. Sears has 600 mg combined EPA & DHA in each pill of 1000 mg (1 gram).
Dr. Sears pills are at 60% concentration, the minimum for a high quality.
    12 pills = 600 mg per pill x 12 pills = 7200 mg or 7.2 grams.

    Hannah,

If you want to do some reading to gain a better understanding the books "Toxic Fat" and "The Omega Rx Zone" , both by Barry Sears, are excellent resources.

Wow .. Even I am confused now.

Reading through these respones I want to try and make this easy...

Doctor Sears's recommends you take 4 capsules per day.

One of Dr. Sears OmegaRx capsules = 1,000mg of fish oil concentrate. One of our 1,000mg capsules has approx. 400 of EPA and 200mg. DHA. 4 capsules = 1,600mg. EPA and 800mg of DHA

One teaspoon of the liquid = 5ml. or 1 teaspoon. One teaspoon = approx. 1,800mg of EPA and 900mg. of DHA

The breakdown of our fish oil is as follows:
4% saturated fat – no bottle listing required by law if under 0.5g (500mg.) per serving
    21% monounsaturated
    75% polyunsaturated (includes Omega 3’s – 70% and Omega 6’s – 5%).
    All fats are naturally occurring
A trace amount of natural preservative system added
