I am on an Insulin Pump and am 100% dependent on the insulin to survive. I am not in good control of my levels and hope to do a complete turn around now on the zone. I did the zone last year and only made it 2 months but was down to only 3 units of Insulin a day from over 30 daily. I am open to any helpful suggestions for diabetics or any ideas or just good stuff out there

    Harley,

    My advice...
Use the block system, it will help you to keep good control of the number of carbs you are taking in with each meal. And, the best control of blood sugar will come by using the food guide and selecting the low density favorable carbs.

You already know the power of eating in the Zone. Include OmegaRx and polyphenol XT in addidtion to eating in the Zone. If you need information and support come here to the forums, use the search engine on this site or call 800-404-8171

Also a good idea to buy dr Sears book " The OmegaRX Zone (check out page 203)

There is a search box at the top of this page(find the yellow line at top of page); enter diabetes in it and watch all the helpful information come to you.

    Here are some helpful links:

    Harley

Just found this little bit of information when using the search at top of our zone web page...

I copied a bit of it for you just to get you going... here is the link: http://www.zonediet.com/blog/2011/0...n-studies/

    Diabetes

The first publication validating the benefits of the Zone diet in treating diabetes appeared in 1998 (16). Since that time there have been several other studies indicating the superiority of the Zone diet composition for reducing blood glucose levels (17-20). In 2005, the Joslin Diabetes Research Center at Harvard Medical School announced its new dietary guidelines for treating obesity and diabetes. These dietary guidelines were essentially identical to the Zone diet. Studies done at the Joslin Diabetes Research Center following those dietary guidelines confirm the efficacy of the Zone diet to reduce diabetic risk factors (21). If the Zone diet isn’t recommended for individuals with diabetes, then someone should tell Harvard.

    Hi Harley,

Congrats on you past Zone success! It sounds like you probably already have a pretty good idea about what to do. Be sure to inform your doctor that you're changing your diet, and work closely with him/her to determine your daily insulin needs. Consider taking Omega Rx and a Zone polyphenol supplement to enhance the inflammation lowering aspects of the Zone.

Whichever method you choose (Zone At-a-Glance, block method, 1-2-3, gram counting, etc.), if you follow the guidelines you will end up with meals and snacks containing basically the same proportions of protein, carbohydrate and fat, so go with the method that is easiest and most comfortable for you. The stricter your adherence to Zone principles, the better your results will be. Drink plenty of water. Remember to keep eating throughout the day, not going more than 5 hours without eating a Zone balanced meal or snack. It’s important to provide a steady supply of protein and other nutrients to your body. Keep it simple and regardless of the method you use, focus on choosing your specific carbohydrates from the vegetables and fruits in the Zone Food Block Guide found here: http://drsears.com/ArticlePreview/t...fault.aspx

There are tons of great suggestions in these forums and in Zone books. I'll be happy to help if you have questions.
