I elected to take a rest day on June 1. Yesterday (June 2) I did a benefit bike ride, 67 miles. The last 20 miles were grueling, as there was a very strong headwind. I honestly felt like giving up, but somehow I hung in there. I was one of the last riders to return. Most of the long distance riders ride road bikes (with the really skinny tires), and therefore much less road resistance and go a lot faster. I, however, have a "cross" bike from the early 90's which works very well for me, but is not the fastest bike out there! There was one hill that I just could not climb, so I walked it. After I got back, there was a dinner served and I was talking with some of the riders. Come to find out that there were quite a few people who had to walk that same hill. And a few riders had walked up just about every hill after we had hit the headwind. The neat thing about it was that there were people at every rest break and at the finish line to cheer on and congratulate every rider, even us stragglers at the end!

June 3: short ride to the ice cream shop--didn't have any but my family did, then rode back home. About 20 min. Also worked in yard, trying to get our pool re-assembled. June 4: 35 min bike ride, moderate pace. |

Things have been crazy this week. In-laws left Tuesday. Last workout was Tuesday. Been working like a madman since. Luckily the work lessens later today and I can get back to a heavy strength day and getting out on a good hike with the dogs. Unfortunately, the diet has really taken a hit in the last week and a half (since the in-laws first arrived). |

June 7: short 1/2 hour ride, was about 7 miles. Since I had limited time, I really pushed it on the speed. June 8: taking a day off. Went to the pool with the kids after work, and just feeling quite lazy right now! |

June 11: biked same route as yesterday. This time it wasn't the heat, but the incredible wind! First it was totally against me, but it certainly made for a fun ride home! |

June 12: 20 miles round trip ride to/from my niece's softball game. I parked near a bike trail, rode for about 4-5 miles until it intersected with another one, rode that one for 5 to the road that goes to the park. On the way back, did a different loop on paved road, was fun both ways! June 13: 13 mile ride moderate pace (one of my usual routes) June 14: 7 miles leisurely ride with my older daughter as we rode around town. She had to stop at the grocery store, so we made a nice little ride out of it! June 16: 18 mile ride moderate pace. June 17: 7 mile ride on a paved bike trail with my youngest daughter. I promised her to take her shopping if she would ride with me! We did have an "incident" and crashed into each other, so a little sore this morning! |

June 18: leisurely 3 mile bike ride to the grocery store with youngest daughter. I am contemplating another ride "just for myself" but I am still sore and losing my motivation very quickly! |

June 19: 18 mile bike ride over 1h 25 min. It has been really hot out, but there was also a nice breeze, which really helped! |

Glad to have you join me on this thread! I am temporarily out of commission after a dog bite in my ankle a few days ago. |

I did ride my bike again today, about 38 minutes. Not easy to do since my injured foot is my lead and I keep wanting to start and stop with that one. Also, hills were difficult. But, just glad to get out there! However, I will be out of commission once again since I discovered that one of my wounds is abscessed.
