I love LOVE Chobani yogurt. It seems like the perfect food for the Zone but I'm not sure. Does anyone else eat this? And, if so, is it for a meal or just a snack? Do you count it for your protein or carbs or both?

    Thank you,
    Hali

Sorry if this question has been asked many times before...I'm just getting used to the forums. :-)

    Hali,

We did discuss Chobani yogurt in another thread recently, but you may not have been around for that quite yet.

Some Zoners feel that it is a good zone snack--and would be a 2-block snack.

I don't feel as positive about it, though. Not that it can't be used moderately, but my feeling is that they are still using some unfavorable carbohydrate to flavor the yogurt. A plain yogurt has 7g of carb and 18g of protein. However, a flavored yogurt (strawberry) reduces the protein to 14g and the carb goes up to 20g. To me, it is unrealistic to expect that 13 extra grams of carbohydrate are from favorable carb! They use "evaporated cane juice" to sweeten it, which is just another fancy name for added sugar.

I ended up trying some Chobani yogurt for a mid-afternoon snack as we were out on a ride and the convenience store had it. I ate it, and it did not keep me satisfied for very long, certainly not for much over an hour.

But, as I said, others have used it in a pinch, and seem to do fine with it. It is probably a decent alternative in a pinch, but I would not recommend it as a regular zone snack.

Okay, so if I did eat this for a snack, the one I like (vanilla) is as follows:

    Fat: 0g
    Carbs: 18g
    Fiber: 0g
    Protein: 22g

That is 8 oz and I don't eat that much but there it is. Is the protein content too high? Would I eat it alone as a "balanced" snack? Do I need to add carbs? I think I would have to eat some nuts with it.

    Thanks! :-)

Hali, that's actually 3 blicks if protein. Eat 1/3 to 1/2 of that for a snack, and add a dash of fat for balance.

Perfect. I miss my Chobani. ;-) I'll usually eat about 4oz with some cashews or almonds. Awesome. Thank you very much, Sue.

Cran; I heard a great slogan, this morning: If it rots - eat it.
Sums up well the whole, raw (unprocessed) foods concept.
