I know that we should always do our best to follow the zone but in a real pinch, for example at a catered lunch, is it better to eat high fat proteins or more lower fat unfavorable carbs. I'm talking about when you don't have a lot if choice and are making the most of a bad situation.

My guess is I would go with the Higher Fat Proteins and skip the unfavorable Carbs.
Or minimize the Carbs. Fat slows down the absorption and release of Carbs into sugars,
helps slow the insulin response mechanisms, thus in a bad situation helping a little.
OR, if you know you are going, ahead of time, bring something with you, like an apple you can eat with the Proteins, to at least balance out the meal.

I figure, either way I am going to be OOZ, so I just try not to overdo it on overall calories. Personally, if I push the fat, I end up way over on calories (and still hungry). Or, if I eat the carbs, I just keep eating and eating and eating, so I still overeat. So, this is one time that I just try to be mindful about the caloric intake, and just try to balance it out as best as I can.

In these cases I eat a Zone bar or cookie as my lunch prior to the lunch event. Then I go very light on the lunch that's being served, eating about as much as a Zone snack or drinking a cup of tea throughout the lunch if nothing fits the bill.

That's Zone bar or Zone cookie. Either one is fine as a meal replacement. I carry one in my purse so I'm never stuck without an easy Zone balanced meal on hand.

Kathy... In this situation you would want to go with the High fat proteins. The insulin effect will be lees then the unfavorable carbs. Sue makes a good suggestion. You can also grab some of Dr Sears Nutrition Bars for times like these. The bars curbs hunger for up to three hours,
there controlled Release Nutrition helps you stay sharp mentally and physically and Zone Nutrition Bars contain the same amount of protein as a four-egg white omelet.
