When techie mentioned "not to obsess over any of the program", this really rings true for me. A former forum member had posted once, "the Zone is just that...a Zone. Not an exact spot, but a range between 2 points. Like a parking space. You are in the parking zone if your car does not go over the line" Years ago, when I first started, I initially had good success during that first year. Didn't meet my weight goal, and did hit some bumps, but I got really good help on things when I participated in the forums. However, back at that time, I ended up becoming "obsessive" over managing the block system, and I felt like I had failed when I didn't do things perfectly. I managed to at least maintain the weight that I had lost over the next year or 2. But, ran into some trouble when things came to a head, i.e. multiple stressors, feeling like "why do I bother when I am not succeeding", etc. So, for a period, I gave up and just went back to normal eating. Fortunately not for long, because I realized over a short period of time that I was quickly gaining weight back! At that point, I realized that I WAS successful in the Zone, EVEN if I had not reached my goal weight! Success isn't measured by weight alone. The mere fact that I was controlling my blood sugars, and had NOT developed Diabetes, was really the success that I was after. Weight/fat loss is really more of a "side effect". So, making a long story short, I am still here, still plugging away at it (slowly). But, one thing changed for me... I don't OBSESS over it. If I make a mistake or go OOZ, its all fine. Just go right back at it. I find that it does not really matter that I have EXACTLY the right number of carbohydrate grams. A little more or a little less is JUST FINE. BTW, I do agree about the errata page, there used to be one posted somewhere, maybe it was on Dr. Sears' website at www.drsears.com. I have seen it, but honestly have not looked for it very recently. |
