I'm just wondering which low calorie sweetener tastes best. I'm looking for natural healthy sweeteners. I have a hard time with stevia, I find the after taste too strong. Has anyone used xylitol? What is the taste in comparison to stevia. I'm looking at $12 a box and don't want to waste my money if it's no better tasting. I'm also curious about coconut sugar. I've read some good things about it, but am unsure how it will fit into the zone diet. Thanks

Everyone's taste is different. So, what tastes good for one may not be good to another.

I like the taste of stevia, but not all brands are the same. I use Sweetleaf, and I find the taste to be acceptable, not overpowering. If I use too much, then there is that bitter taste, but I find that I don't really crave too much sweet, anyway.

I also like splenda for taste, but sometimes I think it is too sweet.

    I have never used xylitol.

Don't know if anyone had tried Truvia, but that is a stevia blend. A friend of mine purchased some and I tried it... tasted very good, closer to sugar.

Xylitol in larger quantities has a menthol effect in your mouth afterwards, which can be a little weird. It can also upset the tummy and loosen stool.

I've tried Truvia, but only in small quantities, and it's fine. But I also find stevia fine, as long as it's in small quantities.

Hi Constance. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol. Here are some of Dr. Sears' comments about sugar alcohols: http://drsears.com/tabId/399/itemId...-hype.aspx
