Ok guys, I'm a 27 year old male who is hypothyroid. I am hoping that I am reaching the end of my dose adjustment just got upped to .150 of levothyroxine. Anyhow with research I discovered that alot of people who suffer from hypothyroidism have success on this diet as far as weight loss and general symptom relief. I was wondering if there are some people on here who have had success while being hypo.
I was diagnosed last November. TSH of about 9. Been up and down since, doc and I seem to be regulating and I want to start helping myself feel better. I have always been a big person roughly between 250 and 270 since my early 20's. I am 6'. Since I went hypo I ballooned up to almost 340 and it is driving me nuts, its taking and toll on me physically and mentally and I'm ready to put an end to it.
So all you hypos out there, any success?

Hi Scott,
I have hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's), I take levothyroxine (Levoxyl) and I have been very successful with the Zone, especially in regard to weight loss. I lost 100 pounds during my first two years in the Zone (1995-1996) and have maintained the weight loss ever since.

Sounds great!!! So I do have to ask being a 27 years old single male that has a family business. Is the occasional couple of drinks a know know with this diet. It def seems like the plan for me but I have to go into this know exactly what I can and can't do. And sometimes my social and business life require this.

It's you choice, Scott. 4 oz of wine with 1 ounce of cheese is an acceptable Zone snack, though it may not keep everyone who eats it "in the Zone". It depends on your level of sensitivity to carbohydrate. If youre going to have more than 4 oz at a time you will probably not stay in the Zone. Your best bet for consuming alcohol is to do it in the context of an entire Zone meal. Regardless, always have a protein chaser with alcohol. It's not necessary to be too exacting. You'll soon learn what your body can handle and what it can't.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroid Disease last year. According to my tests, my antibodies were high and my thyroid was fried. I had swelling in the face and chronic hives. I am on 44mcg of Synthroid since anything over that turns me Hyperthyroid. I found out about The Zone after searching for good thyroid diets. I just started my 2 week ZoneFast and then will continue on my own after that.... have 14 pounds to lose and get to a healthy goal weight. I am glad to hear that other people have been successful with thyroid issues on this diet.
