2 large portabella mushroom caps, stems removed 8 oz lean ground turkey (I used Jennie-O) 2 zucchini, chopped 1 onion, chopped 4 cups mushrooms, chopped 1.5 cups canned crushed tomatoes 2 tsp olive oil Place mushroom caps on baking sheet, upside-down (like a bowl). Saute ground turkey, then saute veggies in oil. Mix together, add the tomatoes. Spoon over the mushroom caps, and bake in oven for 20-30 min until mushroom is cooked through. It is a heaping mountain of food! Makes 2 3-block meals. |

It takes 4 cups of mushrooms for a block of carb, so I am assuming very little carb in a large mushroom cap. |

Hi, sandwitches are not favourable therefore it is best to avoid them. I understand that ZoneFast breads are OK but I never used them. If I crave some sandwich type snack I like to use one piece of dark rye crisp bread with a thin layer of Philadelpha cheese and smoked salmon or mackarel. |

Large lettuce leaves (essentially no Carbs) make a great alternative to bread. And if you absolutely must or want to have bread, you can get a very lo Carb. high fiber flat bread or tortilla wrap, about 6 grams of net Carbs, as part of your unfavorable Carb portion, if you can not afford to have and keep on-hand the (expensive) ZoneFast breads. (Though we have reduced our grain consumption to very little, and are eating almost entirely gluten-free if not grain free - by choice, not necessity.)

The old book a week in the Zone, in the meal planner states that corn tortias and or rye bread is acceptable. Has that changed.Curious what is a week in the Zone as far as your meals, snacks consist of, I'm lost and cannot afford the Zone breads. Thanks, Debra |

Debra... "A Week in the Zone" is pretty much a step by step walk through of the Zone. Not sure of your question. maybe a good idea to call one of our Zone Coaches @ 800-404-8171 |

Hi Cran, I think I am going to try this mushroom idea with just the veggies and a tiny bit of grated cheese on top and a nice piece of grilled salmon on the side. It will make a great dinner for tomorrow night:-) Paula |

Sounds like a great idea! Thanks for posting your idea, and for refreshing the thread. I have been stuck in a rut and this is just the recipe to get me out! |
