Hi Janette Thank you for the advice about baking the apples. I will try this. I love apples but I feel so hungry after eating them. |

Hi Sue and CC I only ever drop my carbs by 1 - I always have 2 blocks at a meal. I havent tried the smoothie again as today I made steel cut oats with protein powder. It was a nice change although my stomach was feeling a bit uncomfortable afterwards. Might have been the carb sensitivity again ... Tomorrow (Sunday) we will be having scrambled eggs so will try the smoothie on Monday. CC - I understood what you were saying in your previous post. |

Hey Margaret! I figured you probably knew what I meant. Just didn't want it to be unclear for other readers. It is funny about how foods work and then how our bodies change and then the same meal doesn't work anymore! I haven't been able to eat steel cut oats for a while now, without adding an unreasonable amount of fat. |

Margaret, here's a favorite breakfast of mine, very Zone friendly and right in line with Barry Sears' suggestion to keep it to one block of oats at a time (oats have a higher glycemic load than most favorable carbohydrates). You might like it. 6 egg white omelet cooked in olive oil 1 block of cooked steel cut oats topped with slivered almonds and cinnamon (add a splash of milk if you like, too) 1 block of berries on the side

Funny thing is - I am an extremely slow eater. Sometimes I can take up to 30 mins to eat a meal !!! So think .. when do I start counting the 4-5 hours after the meal !! |

Margaret, I haven't ever really though about it that precisely. Just judge at some point around 4 hours later and you should be good. |

Margaret, as long as you count it consistently the same, it should not be a problem. I generally count it from the time that I have started eating, and as long as I can say I have had satiety from the start of one meal to the next, then that is what I am after. Each person's satiety is an individual experience, and may not last as long for some, but yet still be appropriate. |

I made the nicest smoothie this morning. It kept me from being hungry for just on 4 hours. I am going to make it again tomorrow - it was like a thick liquidy chocolate pudding. 1 cup blueberries 1 heaped tablespoon cocoa powder 2 heaped scoops protein powder 6 almonds 1/2 avocado water (small amount then add more to get the consistency you want) |

Probably higher fat content was what kept you in the Zone, or maybe avocado just works better as a fat for you than almonds--I think you mentioned that some fats work better for you than others... |

Hi Sue, you do know what you are doing and to lose all that weight.......I want to lose 50 or so..... And I am new to this Zone....need help.......you have breakfast here...... 10 Sep 2011 12:45 PM QuoteReplyAlert Margaret, here's a favorite breakfast of mine, very Zone friendly and right in line with Barry Sears' suggestion to keep it to one block of oats at a time (oats have a higher glycemic load than most favorable carbohydrates). And I know that 4 large eggs equals 1/2 cup of egg substitute.....so that would be half a cup and a 1/4 of a cup. And I know how much is a block of berries...... Thanks......Sue...... |

Hi Claire, According to the Zone food block list 1/3 cup of cooked steel cut oats is equal to 1 carbohdrate block. I don't know the amount for egg subsitute, but for a 3 block meal you'd want to use the amount which yields approximately 20 grams of protein. |
