Hey All, I'm new to the zone and have been reading stuff on the forum's and basing my decisions on a crossfit journal article. I would like to purchase a book for more information, but there are so many out there! I was just wondering if someone could post a summary of the differences. I cannot imagine the philosophy and "directions" are different in each one, so I was wondering how there were so many. Thanks! |

I feel that the main principles of the Zone has not really changed much over the years. The more recent books focus more on topics like inflammation and toxic fat, and the cornerstones have been defined more clearly (like using fish oil, etc). But, the basic concept of building a zone meal has not changed at all. For that reason, I believe that MASTERING THE ZONE is one of the best (and most understandable) books out there. It goes into the most detail of all the books regarding how to Zone your meals, and it does go into the science just a bit (but not to confuse anyone). |

Oh okay. So is "Mastering the Zone" basically the same as "The Zone," but just with a better description of the science behind the program? |

Mastering the Zone was written for doctors. Enter The Zone was a more simplified version of Mastering the Zone. If you want a quick easy to understand description of the Zone I recommend A Week in the Zone. It provides 1 week's worth of recipes, and much more helpful information. I also recommend Toxic Fat his latest book with the most up to date research. If you want to understand omega-3's The OmegaRx Zone focus' on that. The Anti-Inflammation Zone talks about the What silent inflammation is. Hope that helps. |

Richard, "The Zone" is actually the same as "Enter the Zone". "Mastering the Zone" came after that. I don't even think I have a copy of "A Week in the Zone", but I do hear that is a pretty good book, too. Really, each one of us will have differing opinions on which book is the best. In the earlier days, I think the books were written with similar info and just different approaches, some minor updates. The later books, like Toxic Fat, I would consider to be more science-based, with more emphasis on why the Zone cornerstones are so important, and a bit less emphasis on HOW to build a zone meal. |

I have quite a few Zone books. The "Week in the Zone" book is excellent. It is easy to read and understand. I have tried quite a few times to read the "Toxic Fat" book but it is too scientific. The recipes in Toxic Fat have been repeated from other Zone books which was disappointing. It would have been nice to have some new recipes. |
