I'm replying here because I keep getting an error when I try to post in the Athletic forum.
Goos don't really fit into the Zone. You didn't mention the type of events/training in which you participate, but typically an athlete in the Zone has a Zone balanced meal for breakfast, followed by a Zone balanced snack just before the start of the event. If you're a runner, running less than 3 hours or so, you will usually only need to keep drinking water to stay hydrated (several members of my family run full marathons this way; it definitely works). If longer, such as a triathalon, you'd support your efforts with Zone balanced snacks at intervals throughout the event. Here's a related video in which Dr. Sears talks about the Zone diet for athletes: http://www.youtube.com/user/ZoneAdm...aMQqkj2hKE
