Am I suppose to be calculating all the macronutrients in the food. Let say i have a english muffin with 24 carbs. Should i be adding the 4g of protein in my meal. Or should i just add the carbs. I notice on the Zone meal chart it doesn't show that the protein is included. Another thing i read was, you can subtract the fiber grams in the carbs and not use them in the counting of the grams in the carbs. That was in one of Dr. Sears books (either Mastering or Dietary Road Map). Can some one explain this alittle for me.

In US you need to substract fiber from the carbs grams to get the number but in England, the fiber is not counted towards carbs at all as far as I understand. 24grams (once you've substracted fiber) is a little less than 3 blocks of carbs (one block = 9 g). Protein content can be probably ignored as it comes from grains and this protein is not something your body will use. To complete your meal you should also eat 3 blocks of protein = 21 grams and 3 blocks of fat = 9 grams. Check the zonehealth.com website for the list of foods which are favourable. English muffin is not favourable, unless it comes from ZoneFast foods which can be bough from this website only. Let's say it is something you bought in a regular grocery shop. It is not favourable then, just have half of it. The rest of carbs should be vegetables (tomatoes, pappers etc), lean meat or dairy for proteins and peanut butter, olive oil etc for fat

Further clarification: The CARB count on packages in the UK has already subtracted the fiber content. In the USA, the Carb Count is ALL Carbs, so you have to subtract the fiber count to arrive at the true NET Carbs used by your body. By the way, in "Toxic Fat" - the first 25 pages is an excellent overview to understanding the "ZONE" which is the zone of keeping blood sugar in balance. Blood sugar is needed for everything we do - provides the energy to our cells. But only so much can be used at any one time. Excess or too little blood sugar causes problems.

This Food Block Chart is a great resource, print it and keep it on your fridge. Pretty soon you will memorize it. http://www.drsears.com/ArticlePrevi...fault.aspx

    Hi Tech Support

Can you suggest to Dr Sears that he put the "gram" equivalent next to the "ozs" in the Food Block guide. I know there are Zoners from other countries (like me from Australia) that dont use "ozs". I remember someone suggesting this a few months ago. Thanks

    I usually use a rough conversion of 1oz = 30 grams.

There was some one who did do just that (old forums) and called it a Brick Guide, so as not to steal and to avoid confusion with Dr. sears actual Block guide.
I have it up on my fridge, and it is handy.
    .
I believe i have it in soft copy. However, it s not an official version!
    .
Just e-mail me, directly, and I will find it and send it to you.
A PDF file, as I recall.

I will have to check, but I believe I also received that Brick Guide, I don't recall if it was excel or pdf. Had saved it to a file at work, so will have to check that out next week.
