Hello everyone! I am joining you because I am searching for ways to improve my health as I age. I started reading Dr. Sears' books 15 years ago and the first thing I did was to add Omega RX to my diet. For the first couple of years I did a double dose of about 10 grams per day, since then it has been 5 grams per day, all these many years. I am still taking fish oil but switched to a less expensive brand last summer, about 4 grams daily now.
I played with the Zone diet for a bit but eventually went a different route which has involved, over the last ten years, removing sugar and white flour from my diet, increasing my protein, and eating 3 well balanced meals a day. I could see my health improve at first, but lately I feel like I'm losing ground and imagine I need to pay more attention to insulin control.
I'm grateful that I don't have any big health issues but I have a lot of little ones -- things like increasingly sore joints, itchy skin, hair loss, brittle nails, more allergies, high cholesterol, overweight, cracked and bleeding heels, vaginitis, occasional episodes of GERD, sinus infections, mild sleep apnea and some serious late afternoon fatigue. All together they tell me I need to make some changes.
Making big changes though never seems to stick for me, so I'm hoping I can approach this in a consistent, moderate way. I'm thinking that I can, at least to begin, use the eye-ball the plate method of 1/3 low fat protein, 2/3 favorable veggies with maybe a touch of fruit added in. Then I'll refine as I go along, but the whole idea of learning the blocks kinda turns me off.
I am reading lots of the messages here for encouragement and I'm excited to see changes. I'll keep you posted.
