Hello!
I recently read on one of the forums of a different brand of Omega 3's than the Omega Rx, but I can't seem to find it again. I can't afford to buy it off of this website and was wondering if anyone knew of good alternate ones to buy. I bought a cheaper store brand to get myself started and I felt AWFUL! I was tired, sluggish and miserable 24/7 while taking it. A day or so after I stopped I was back to my normal self again. I want to take something that works!
Thank you! |

Check out the IFOS website (google International Fish Oil Standards), they will have fish oils listed there that are comparable to OmegaRx. |

Jen, I'm going to share some personal information with you so that you know I know where you are coming from. I was just on the phone with Suport this past week so that I could figure out the best way to get what I needed at the best cost. They were wonderful, by the way! I have Multiple Sclerosis so I need to take 10 g of fish oil per day which equates to 16 capsules. Plus I need to start taking the Sea Health Plus. When I looked at the cost, I about had a heart attack! Three years ago I was making $85,000 per year in real estate. This coupled with my husbands $55,000 per year made life pretty cozy. We're not extravagant people, but we had 3 cars - one for each of us and one for the kids to share at college. We were helping our kids through a private church based college and our youngest was attending a private church based high school (the same as his 3 siblings). We had a house that was within our means. We had the typical American debt because we as Americans do like our "necessities". Then I had a major relapse with my MS and the next 2 years were spent in just trying to get well. I was finally getting back on my feet from a health standpoint when both of my parents became seriously ill and I've spent the last 6 months out of state assisting them. Our family very quickly had to learn how to live on $55,000 per year rather than $140,000 - this is NOT easy! We're slowly getting unburied but it has required some major changes and some real clarity on what is important in life. So when I realized that I needed to be taking 16 capsules of fish oil every day I was thinking - there's just no way to fit this in our budget. And yet, I know that with the success I've had already with the Zone that I trust Dr. Sears and his technology. So the real question for me was - what is more important in my life? Is it good health and a longer life with my family or "stuff" that I can really do without. So I dug and was able to find ways that we're still wasting money on things that don't really matter and I ordered what I need to from Zone labs. Yes, I'll miss the fresh vegetables because I like the taste and texture, plus I actually like to chop things up (scary, isn't it?! LOL!~). But if I watch for sales I can get frozen vegetables for $1 a bag and that's a meal with protein and fat. I like fresh fish better, but sales of frozen get me more bang for my buck. Do I really NEED to have 140 channels to watch on TV? And while I do LOVE NCIS, do I really need to have the DVR just so I don't have to watch the commercials? Jen - I hope you understand that I'm sharing this with you only because I really feel in my heart that the best way to achieve the results you need is with Dr. Sears. I'm not saying that other fish oils aren't good and Cranberrycat gave an excellent source for checking. All I know is that Dr. Sears has created a product specifically for our needs and if there is a way to find the funds needed to purchase it through Zone, I personally think it's a good idea. I talked to Support and we figured out that it's cheaper to order the capsules so I'm taking 16 a day rather than the liquid because that's how I can make it work with my budget. Sorry for the long post and for being so serious. It's just that this has been a life changing process for me and I truly do want others to share the same experience. Best of luck to you in your journey. You will find a wealth of wonderful people here who are more than willing to guide and encourage. They have become good friends! |

Well said Christie. I share your viewpoint about the Zone and Omega Rx. It's helped my family immensely, too. Incidentally, in order to be able to support our family's healthy lifestyle my husband and I have been working at 5 jobs, and I've recently added another, bringing the total to 6 between the two of us. Where there's a will, there's a way. ____________________________________________

Laurie - I'm always somewhat hesitant because I don't want to come across as preaching but I also feel really pulled to share because this has been such a life-changing thing. Thanks for your words. It really means a lot to me. |

Christie,
Thank you for being so open and personal about your life! From the time I wrote my original post to now I have read a lot more of Toxic Fat as well as looked into the Omega Rx a bit and compared it to other supplements on the market. I can see that it is really the best one out there to take and that my body will benefit from it much more than any other supplement. As Sue wrote, "Where there's a will, there's a way." I don't know when that "way" will come but I am going to work on it!
You inspire me so greatly in my Zone journey through many of your posts! I will be praying for your parents and for you as you go through this time of caring for them.
Thanks again for sharing what you have. |

I forgot I was going to ask this! I know that Omega 3's help reduce inflammation in the body as well as help lubricate joints. My knees have been bothering me more than usual lately. I have been taking glucosamine chondroitin on and off for them for a couple of years and I don't know if it truly helps or not (I'm sure I'm not taking the best on the market but it is a pretty reliable brand). Does anyone think that taking an Omega 3 supplement would work better for that specifically?
Thank you everyone for your help in all my questions I post on here! It helps me a lot. |

Hi Jen,
The way to see if it makes a difference is try it. A tip, in order to see the benefit you need to take the full amount of Omega Rx you need. The amount of Omega Rx you'd take daily depends upon your degree of wellness. It's explained in TOXIC FAT as follows (grams refer to total amount of EPA and DHA combined). You'd probably require taking in the 5g to 7.5g range.
To maintain wellness, 2.5 g/day (4 caps; 1 teaspoon liquid).
For overweight, obesity, type 2 diabetes, or before starting a diet, 5 g/day (8 caps; 2 teaspoons liquid).
For chronic pain, 7.5 g/day (12 caps; 3 teaspoons liquid).
For existing neurological conditions 10 g/day (16 caps; 4 teaspoons liquid).

Jen, I think the fish oil can help with your joints. I have chronic knee pain that seems "controlled" as long as I am taking the fish oil. If I have a lapse in my fish oil dosing, I can definitely tell the difference.
BTW, you probably won't see much effect from the fish oil for a month or two, it won't happen overnight.
I don't see any reason why you would have to choose one approach over the other. I would continue the glucosamine/chondroitin, at least for the 1-2 months that it takes to get the fish oil dosing established. That way, you will at least not feel worse, and hopefully you will feel better. |

Haha, I never expected to be updating so soon about taking the glucosamine or about me ordering fish oil, but here it is: I started to work on finding a way to afford the OmegaRx. My husband and I figured out a way for me to cancel my gym membership and get to the base to work out (he's in the Navy and we are a one car home since I'm currently not working). In doing that, the cost of the fish oil is just a bit more than my membership was, so that worked out pretty well! As far as taking the glucosamine goes...well, we just found out this week that we are pregnant with our first child! There aren't enough studies done on glucosamine to know if it's safe for pregnant women to take so it's advised not to. And with all the good things that OmegaRx has to offer for me as well as the baby, I am definitely going to start using it! My life is a whirlwind right now and I'm still in shock, but I'm SO glad to have found the Zone Diet and to know that I will be giving my baby (as well as myself) the very best that I can. An added plus - being pregnant is already motivating me to stick to the Zone all the more and not be tempted by "goodies". We'll be flying home for Christmas next week and I think my chances of eating healthier/properly have just significantly increased. |

Congrats Jen! That's so exciting! A tip, Dr Sears recommends that pregnant women add 1 additional balanced block to every meal (that's 1P +1C + 1 F). You could also simlpy add 3 more balanced blocks as snacks, too. My daughter just had her second baby (ge's 7 weeks old) and she took Omega Rx throughout her entire prengnancy (and prior to it, and she still takes it). Good luck! ____________________________________________

Thank you Sue and Laurie! We're both very excited and can't wait to tell our families (we're telling them Christmas day). Sue - I had actually looked through some older forums about pregnancy and found that information. Thank you for sharing that though. |
