Depends... there are about 100 calories in a complete zone block so a 3 block meal would be 300 calories and a 4 block meal would be 400 calories, give or take... Another thing to consider is fiber, if you are eating a meal higher in fiber, the fiber content will push up the caloric value some. However, since fiber isn't digested, we don't count the carb from the fiber in the Zone.

    Protein:  4 calories per gram = 4 x 7 = 28 calories per block of Protein
Carbohydrate: 4 calories per gram = 4 x 9 (net) = 36 calories per block of net Carbs
    Fat: 9 calories per gram = 9 x 3 = 27 calories per 2 blocks Fat

28 + 36 + 27 = 91 calories plus some which is not counted such as from the subtracted fiber,
so you can use 100 calories per block of food as Cran suggested.

    Hi Judy,

Many foods contain more than one macronutrient.  Protein, carbohydrate and fat are macrountrients.  Many protein sources also contain fat.  Some fats also contain protein and carbohydrate (nuts, for example).  Some vegetables also contain protein, and/or fat.  For this reason, the typical woman's Zone recommendation of 11 blocks daily will yield around 1200 calories.

    Hi again,

Every day I am stronger with being in the zone but no success on weight loss even yet. I feel a lot of it is due to my appetite. I still always seem to be hungry. I am taking the liquid fish oil two teaspoon a day. I am still taking the weight loss supplements and sea health plus. So that part seem good. I eat almost every night the orzo with added vegetables into a good zone meal. I have my breakfast down good too which is usually white egg omelets or zone bread with almond butter. So my problem seems to be between noon and around 5:30 to 6:00pm. I don't eat at all after my orzo dinner except a little yogurt which I don't want around 10:00pm for a snack. My question is do you think adding more protein at lunch would help me? My lunch has been usually deli turkey slices - 3 oz. tomatoe and almonds with a fruit for dessert. I eat my snack at about 3:30 of morzella cheese and tomatoes. I am pretty zoned but I really get hungry mid afternoon and always eat an non zoned snack. For example, a handful of tortilla chips or pretzels. I must eat enough to hamper my weight loss but I can't seem to stop myself. Any suggestions again?

Margaret, the non-Zoned snack every day could prevent you from being in the Zone.  As for protein at lunch, make sure you are eating enough deli turkey (4.5 oz is equal to 3 blocks).
