The "zone"bars at Wal-Mart are not the hormonally controlled Dr.Sears brand.  Though some folks do OK with them.  Check the labels of the "Zone Perfect" bars. Also look at "Balance" Bars and possibly "South Beach" bars.  Though South Beach bars use sugar alcohols.
They are all "balanced" but the Carbs might not be the best nor hormonally controlled.
Most are typically 2 blocks per bar.  At about 12-15 grams P, about 25 grams Carbs, and about 6-7 grams of Fat.   Close enough to get by, just watch and see if they work for you.

I see that the iced oatmeal raisin bars are on sale on this site at 50% off.  Probably a good time to try them.  The email I saw also said that the sale price would apply to subsequent shipments, as well (I don't know if that means through the sale date, or if that price would be locked in if autoship were chosen).

Just thought I would toss that in.

They did that quite a while back for the "Apple...?" bars.  And it was a good price at 50% off.
However, it turns out it was because they discontinued one of the best flavors available!!!
    .
Probably, if 50% off, then most likely being discontinued, so get em while you can.
    .
I still miss those "Apple ...?" ones.

Looks like they changed the AutoShip (at least for the Zone Bars). It now offers 30, 45, and 60 day instead of the 7 & 14 day AutoShip! Its about time. AND at 50% off with AutoShip the price is closer to $1.50 per bar - even with shipping - much more reasonable!!! So, I ordered 2 boxes every 30 days.
    .
I usually get the e-mails on the sales, I didn't see the one on the Iced Oatmeal Raisin at 50% off.
    Thanks Cran.

The email was from "Dr. Sears Zone" and was titled "Get warm and cozy".

I found the prices to be a bit higher, maybe shipping charges were different? IDK, but I ordered one box and the price with shipping came to about $1.87 per bar. I calculated the price with 2 boxes, and that was closer to $1.50 per bar.

YES, 2 boxes were $1.50 ish (plus) per bar with shipping - I did not actually calculate. BUT at that price it is FINALLY worth paying for - as long as it lasts.

    Hi Amy,

The bars you mentioned are not endorsed or recommended by Dr. Sears. The Zone bars made with Dr. Sears' patented hormonal control technology can be found on this site. They can be used as both meal replacements and snacks, and they're delicious! Here are the links:

We have a variety of 7 new bars baked at our own bakery. Blueberry is my favorite.

I find the bars to be too sweet for my taste, and they don't really control my appetite as well as a non-processed food snack does. Still, I do have a small supply of bars on hand... the kids and hubby love them.

I love the new nougat bars, especially the mint chocolate chip and the blueberry bars.

I just got the e-mail tonight announcing the new nougat bars, still pricey for those of us without discounts and on a budget. But I will try them on my next business trip in February 2012. Apparently if you've (Sue) had them shipped to you already, they've been out for a while? And we are just getting the e-mail announcing them now? You'd also think as a new product that there would be some kind of promotion on them as new products. Oh well ..... I guess I;ll have to wait to try them.

Their availability was announced earlier last week on the Zone Diet facebook page.

I know what you mean, John. I am curious about the nougat bars, but will be waiting for a sale. Too expensive for me, as well!

Cranberrycat ... I like the nougat bars alot ... should those be frozen if I'm going to keep them for awhile (or, how long would you keep them on the shelves unfrozen)?

    Hi Scott

I keep mine in the freezer and take them out when needed. I wouldnt recommend keeping them unfrozen - they will last better in the fridge rather than on the shelf. I forgot that I had one of the Zone Brownies in my drawer at work and when I discovered it weeks later it was a big lump of white goo!!

    Margaret,

Many thanks for the speedy reply! Since I can't find "big lump of white goo" in the zone blocks charts .. I think I'll take your advice and stock the freezer!

The brownies are 1-2-3 foods that are baked fresh right before shipment,
and use no preservatives and therefore, you experienced the mold.
the bars are different, are not the 1-2-3 foods baked on demand.
They should last longer, and probably, if like previous bars, will last longer without refrigeration or freezing.

I am sure when I got my shipment of nougat bars (nothing else in order) there was a pamphlet saying to freeze or refrigerate. I freeze them to be on the safe side.

I can;t speak for the nougat bars, but I know that the other bars do not keep well at all. I have experienced some bars that have literally melted away, the fat oozes out of the bar and separates away. Definitely not bars that you can carry in a backpack in mid-July!

The papers in the shipment mention freezing breads and brownies, but I don't think mentioned the nougat bars (but I'll check again!). But, as a physics teacher, I should probably just experiment ... freeze a shipment and see if I grow a third eye in the middle of my forehead .. if not, then I'll know that works fine. [Actually, I'll freeze and date and check periodically .. forget I said that other stuff!]

Scott, there's a "use by" date printed on the wrapper of each nougat bar that's usually 3 to 4 months out from the time of purchase. I don't freeze or refrigerate mine. :)
