After lots, and lots, and lots of research (and initial indecision) for a decent value Heart Rate Monitor, I found one truly good value.  (Very few bad reviews.) SportLine 1025 DUO!  It has a chest strap with a watch receiver for constant monitoring; but, unlike some, the watch receiver can be used on its own and getting a heart rate by touching anywhere on the metal face plate surrounding the watch receiver.  The "Touch Anywhere" feature can be turned off.  The best news is though it lists for $90 and is priced near that at sporting goods stores, you can get it from Amazon dot com for under $60.00 with free shipping.
    .
I received mine on Wednesday, and used it at the gym today for my twice weekly combined weight resistance and Interval workout.  The added (surprise) bonus, is our local YMCA uses LifeFitness equipment that is "Polar ready" and to my pleasant surprise - my SportLine 1025 DUO was also automatically compatible. No more having to be stuck holding the special handles on the recumbant bicycle for my 25 minute high intensity interval portion of my workout.
    .
Hey, a few months ago, I hated going to the gym, and failed to be consistent at three different gym memberships over the past 3 years - always finding excuses not to go back after a business trip.  This is the longest period I've been able to maintain. (Perhaps because I've had no business trips?) No, not really, we went on vacation to Montreal, Canada for a week a couple of months ago.
    .
And though I did struggle a little to get back to going regularly, despite working out with my wife during the vacation, I did force myself.  And now, though I still struggle for the time to stop what I am doing, stop the flow (I work from home) and go to the Y; but,  once I am there, I really get into it now.
    .
Maybe this "boy"having a new "toy" will keep me going even longer?  I am Enjoyng the results (and the comments, etc.rom my wife) as a result of exercising!
    .
This started out as an endorsement for the SportLine 1025 DUO (Men's and Women's versions); Therefore, I highly recommend it.
    .
Most of the few bad reviews were either folks received theirs with a dead or near dead battery - but SportLine HRM batteries are user replaceable, as are most now-a-days (ypical CR2032).  Other bad reviews were of the manual hard to read.  I found it easy to understand, as did many other reviewers. And I do not like complicated electronics (I have a basic, simple cellphone which I use for calling and occasional texting and that's about it.)  Some reviews did not like the small manual, though most all companies are printing small print manuals if not e-versons.  But, SportLine makes all of their manuals available on-line, and easy to find on their website, in PDF. I just printed it out with normal (readable) font/size.
    .
I did have a small problem in setting it up as soon as I received it (user error). The contrast settings adjust in circular, so as I scrolled to see the highest contrast, without knowing it was at its highest, I scrolled one more - to the lowest contrast, wherein I could not see the face values at all.   Started pressing buttons to no avail.  Completely lost - I called their Toll Free number, and I got a live person almost immediately who tried to help, and could not and immediately connected me to Tech, with no waiting - who patiently walked me through all of the steps.  Even calling me back.  You do NOT get CS like that from most Companies!  Yes, he was able to get me back by going through a key combination to reset the watch receiver.  And in less than 5 minutes, I had it programmed, again, being careful with the display contrast setting!

Sounds like a neat gadget, thanks for the info!

I had a really nifty pedometer last spring, and after wearing it for the first 3 months of the year on a consistent basis, I finally lost it.  It is an Omron, retails at $60 or so... and what I really liked about it was that it functioned accurately in just about any position.  I have had pedometers that I would clip onto my waist, and if tilted ever so slightly, would not count the steps at all.

I had gotten it for free as a door prize from our wellness team at work, so I was reluctant to spend the money to get another one, knowing full well of its retail value--and the fact that the wellness team only paid half price for it.  So, I have been waiting for my opportunity to get another one, and now they have finally ordered some  more.  I will have to pay, but only at 1/2 price, and not full retail!

    Hi John,

I have  a Polar monitor and love it.  I bought it at LLBean, precisely so I couldreturn it for another if it ever gave me problems (they have have an unlimited, no qns asked, return policy for everything they sell).  I've had it for about 12 years and it's still going strong.  I don't use it much anymore because I've found I can do just as well with the perceived exertion method (rating exertion level from 1- 10  and then keep it at the range you want).  Hope you enjoy your new monitor as much as I have mine.

John, I would like to ask you what is your opinion about whole milk products and low fat products, the same about meat and yolk. I read many articles where recommended full fat animal products, but zonediet recommends low fat, so what do you use in your diet?

Milk, we stick to and minimally use milk, organic, 2%.
As far as meat, we have been slowly switching to, as budget allows, locally grown, organic, grass-fed. Grass-fed has the better and desired Omega6:3 ratio which is upside down and inflammatory in traditional grain-fed cattle. Much like eating wild salmon vs. farm-raised, which we never eat.
Egg yolks do have plenty of nutrients going for them. However they are not Zone recommended because of their AA content. However, some feel it is minimal, esp. if you purchase eggs from pastured chickens. Using eggs from pastured chickens, i have no problem with eating egg yolks, now and then. Same reason, Pastured have less AA and more of desired healthy nutrients.
I think f Dr. Sears factored in Grass-Fed beef, Pastured chickens, etc. e would not be s strict with some of those foods. But it is your choice.
    .
And do not be fooled by any of the labels on eggs in super-market, you'd be surprised what fee-range, etc really means and how deceptive all the "healthy terms" really are, esp. when it comes to eggs. There is a good article in a previous edition of "PATHWAYS To Family Wellness". a quarterly magazine I read in my Chiropractor's office.
    .
We now buy our eggs, only $3.50 er dozen, at out local berry picking farm, which also have their own grown vegetables and eggs available for sale. They also use Integrated Pest Management as their standard practice.
    .
    Answered all of you questions?

Thank you very much for answering my questions. So what is your preferable protein?
If you don't eat often milk products and beef and salmon...? If we eat protein 5 times a day (and
for my family its a farmer cheese, chicken, egg daily) so what we can eat with less chemicals,
and with more benefits for our body?
