Aaack, I can't find the Zone olive oil on the web site. I've searched every which way but come up empty. I'm on my last bottle and need to set up auto-ship. Can anyone point me to the right place? Thank you kindly.

Hey Sue, thanks for the quick reply. Is there a recommended brand we can get at a store or online? I did download the report (I think the link came from one of the articles from Dr. Sears) that rated EVOOs and most didn't pass muster for high standards. The good ones were obscure brands so I'm wondering if there's something acceptable we can buy.

I don't know if there's a recommended brand, but I've been going by the descriptions in Zone books for the best extra virgin olive oils, those that with a buttery feel that have a hint of a peppery taste/feel in the throat.  I was sorry to see Zone Olive Oil go too.

I just found my "olive oil" report. It's from the UC Davis (California) Olive Center, dated July 2010, and the testing data was provided by Australian Oils Research Laboratory. The general findings (a few exceptions of course) were that the well-known brands, especially from outside the U.S., did not meet *all* the standards for levels of polyphenol content, TAGs, DAGs, PPPs and sensory taste. If anyone's interested, here is the link to the report, very interesting but technical:

And darn, I just wish we could order from Dr. Sears!

Interesting study!  I will have to take more time to look at it; as you said, it is pretty technical!

I recall Barry Sears stating that the best olive oils are imported, and that most American olive oils would not "make the grade"  I have also heard him talk of the taste test, and that one should get a peppery sensation on the tongue (as Sue suggested).  As I quickly read through the report, it seems to suggest the opposite, that most imported olive oils are falling short, and that there are some American brands that actually met the standard.

Will have to give it a better look when I have some time...
