Ordered the two week quick start last night...have the book although I find it confusing (the first one). Is a meal plan going to come in the box with my products? And how can bagels and rolls be low glycemic? I'm confused.

The most powerful component of the Zone 1-2-3 Program is the Zone Diet because of its ability to quickly reduce levels of silent inflammation. This is now made even easier with our revolutionary Zone Foods that enhance the release of certain hormones from your gastrointestinal tract that tell the brain to stop eating. If you aren’t hungry, then cutting back on calories is simple and the drop in silent inflammation is rapid. Our two-week ZoneFast™ Package is the best way to show you how easy it is to seamlessly substitute these revolutionary new Zone Foods as ingredients in the meals you love to eat.

    Hi Afrodite,

The Grocery Additions page of this site (http://www.zonediet.com/GroceryAddi...x)contains all the info you need to put together meals. A copy of it, as well as sample menus and recipes, will also arrive in the box with your food. It's very easy. Have fun!

    Hi Sue,

I saw your answers and advices to other question in relation to weight loss and what I am doing wrong, etc..
I was wondering, if you might be able to help/advise..
I am newbie as well in diet for 8 days now. I live in Italy and the timing for the meals is a bit different in here, for example the dinner time is around 20.30..anyway, the dietologist which I have met here, recommended me this diet plan, in which I should be eating 11/12 block, where snack might be just 200 ml of milk or low fat yoghurt.
As per her explanation, it has perfect balance of carbohydrates and proteins and therefore it can be substituted in 200ml as one block.
Now I ended up with drinking lots of low fat milk and I found really hard ate all those salads and carbohydrates for lunch or dinner, as 300g of aubergine stands for one block only..
Anyway I am desperate because I am trying this for second time and IT IS NOT WORKING FOR ME...I feel hungry after 1,5-2 hours and feel overeating when eating meals due to the large quantity of leaf salad and vegetable..I would not normally ate as much.
I am frustrated and tired and I see that it works for all those people.. What I am doing wrong? Why it doesn't work for me?
I am 165 cm tall with weight of 58 kilos.
(I did even put a bit weight on since in program).. Please help me..
Many thanks in advance Sue. Regards,
    Menefrity

    Hi Menefrity,

The actual time of day you eat is not a problem, as long as you spread your 11-12 blocks throughout the entire day in the form of Zone balanced meals and snacks, and you don't go longer than 5-6 hours without eating a Zone balanced meal or snack. Eight days is not very long, so give it some time. You might not lose weight because your measurements show you're already at an ideal weight, but you should soon begin to feel an increased sense of well-being and increased energy. Reading a Zone book is always helpful. Here are some links that can help:

Zone calculator, to check if your block amounts are correct: http://www.zonediet.com/Tools/Calcu...fault.aspx

Zone rules, Food Block lists, and a sample day's menu: http://www.zonediet.com/Tools/Quick...fault.aspx

Zone 7-day meal planners for more meal ideas: http://www.zonediet.com/Tools/MealP...fault.aspx

If you'd like to post your meals and snacks for a day, including timing, specific foods and amounts, I'll be happy to take a looks to see what might help. If you do any exercise, you can note that on you sample day's menu too.

My sources show 1 block of yogurt to be about 125 ml., and 1 block of milk to be about 250 ml.

Some more tips, milk does not work well for some people because the carbohydrate is liquid and does not always give the best blood sugar control. Try switching to the milk to other lean protein sources and favorable carbohydrates and fats, and cutting back the amount of milk you drink to 1 glass a day or less. Also remember to take Omega Rx every day. The daily dose for a person beginning a diet is 5 g (8 capsules or 2 teaspoons liquid). Also drink plenty of water.

Please keep us updated. Good luck! :-)

Hi Sue, thank you very much for your helpful prompt response.
It is just seems to me that I am eating too much. For example if I have to eat 3 block of carbohydrates I would have to eat 300g of aubergines, then big salad and an apple. Do I still have to eat an entire meal even if I cannot finish the plate and I feel full? Can I eat 2 block of carbohydrates instead? Many thanks. Menefrity

    Youre welcome.
3 blocks of carbohydrate would be the aubergine, a big salad and 1/2 an apple.

You can try a 2 C block meal, but be sure to apply the 4 hour hunger test to meals to be sure 2C works for you (you should not feel hungry 4 hours after your meals). If you use a mix of carbohydrate densities in the meal, you should be able to make the meal size more manageable. An example would be a meal of 4 1/2 oz salmon, 1 1/2 cups green beans sauteed in 1 teaspoon olive oil with 1/4 cup garbanzo beans(chick peas) and 1/2 medium sized apple (or 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce) for dessert.

Hi Cran, my reply to Menefrity is about a 3 block meal with 2 blocks of carbohydrate. Judging hunger 4 hours after a meal does indeed apply in this case.

Hi Sue, thank you very much for your reply..
I am now onmy 15-th day.. and still nothing of the weight.. the worst thing is that I am trying so hard, I have read Dr. Sears before and I do understand the process, it is just maybe not working for me.. It is impossible after weighting all the carbohydrates and proteins, not skipping meals and avoiding all the sweets.. and I wasn't cheating.. there has to be something wrong in what I am doing, or maybe the Zone it is not just for me.. I will give it a try until the end of the week and then I just give up.. with any diet after very strict 3 week regime, you have to loose at least one kilo.. instead I think I put 2 kilos on... I am desperate...

You're welcome Menefrity. As I wrote earlier in this thread, your weight and measurements show you're already at an ideal weight. This alone could be the reason you haven't lost stored body fat in the past couple weeks. Another scenario, your previous way of eating can be impacting the length of time it’s taking for your body to adjust to the Zone and begin releasing stored fat. If you're taking any of the medications known to elevate insulin, that can also prevent the loss of stored fat. Also, remember to compare your pounds of body fat, rather than total weight, to figure out if you' lost stored fat. Stored fat losses can be offset by gains in LBM, making your weight appear to stay the same or even increase, when you have actually lost stored body fat. Here's the calculator when you can check you LBM and pounds of body fat. Dr. Sears suggests to use your body fat and LBM calculated at 2 weeks after beginning the Zone diet for your baseline numbers. Prior to that time, retained fluid can skew your body fat and LBM amounts. Regardless, you'll still receive the health benefits as long as you continue to follow the Zone diet.

Try to be patient and stick with it. In the long run you'll be happy you did.

I just want to add a quick affirm to Sue's post, particularly her point on the health benefits. In Dr. Sear's book, Toxic Fat (and I'm sure in other of his books) he talks about how being lean doesn't necessarily mean being healthy. One thing you may want to take some time to determine for yourself is whether you are looking for a quick fix to drop a few pounds or a life long plan that will help you to release stored fat over the long haul. You are doing all the right things to have life long health so please don't give up on yourself now. It is so worth it for yourself and for your family to maintain this new style of eating.
