    Hi Everyone

After falling off the wagon due to a few money problems and motivational issues I am now trying to get back in the zone.

I have the zone blocks book which I use to create my meal plans but I always have trouble trying to find something to have breakfast.  I need 3 fat, 3 protein and 3 carbs and I always fall short when looking for protien items.  I'm not a big meat eater either so any suggestions you could give me would be much appreciated.

    Thank you
    Jo

    Hi Jo,

    These are good for breakfast.

Zone foods (breakfast rolls, cinnamon buns, toast, bagels, granola, etc.)

6 eggwhite omelet filled with sauteed veggies

Cooked steel cut oats mixed with protein powder and almond butter

Plain yogurt mixed with almond butter OR peanut butter OR olive oil, plus som vanilla or almond flavoring

Any Zone balanced leftovers you have on hand

Jo, I also like using cottage cheese as a protein.  You could make up a breakfast parfait with 3/4 cup cottage cheese on top of 1 1/2 cups blueberries, and sprinkle some sliced or slivered almonds on top of that.

I have also added cottage cheese to my morning oatmeal, topping it with slivered almonds.

Protein powder blends in nicely to morning smoothies.

Egg-white omelets are always a good choice (your choice of carb-favorable fillings), and I actually enjoy omelets at other times of the day.

If you like tofu, then some cubed tofu mixed in with berries and almonds is very tasty.

Ok- so maybe I missed it while reading the book but why are egg yolks so bad? Anytime you see eggs as an ingredient should you remove the yolk?

Egg yolk is rich in arachidonic acid (AA).  This is the fat Dr. Sears refers to as "toxic fat" because it raises levels of inflammation.  The Zone is about reducing inflammation.

Yes, it's best to remove the yolk.
