Is it ok to use this to sautee the mushrooms? The book said one cup of boiled mushrooms is one block so Is it the same when they are sautee'd. Worchestershire doesn't have a protein/ fat count and barely any calories and carbs.. I used quite a bit so it may make a difference. Thanks

4 cups of fresh mushrooms is equal to one block, so if you started out with that much and it reduced to 1 cup, then you are probably on the right track.

According to www.nutritiondata.com, 1 tbsp of worcestershire sauce has about 3g of carb.  So, if you used more than that, it could have an impact on how well the meal was tolerated.  3 tbsp would be equal to 1 block of carb.

I use it often when I cook, but I don't use more than a tbsp--although, I don't measure it, I just give the bottle a few shakes--but I doubt that it amounts to much.

Worchestershire sauce is fine when used in moderation. An easy way to figure out blocks when sauteeing veggies is to measure them raw prior to cooking.

Ok, thanks. I'm not sure if the worchestershire was in moderation.. used prob. 1/4 of a cup. On another note,I ordered fish oil for myself and my husband today. Made my husband pretty mad when he found out the price lol. I told him he can not like it, but i'm going to at least try it. The doctor told him he needs to take fish oil anyway. He's 37, has CAD, already has a stent in his main artery of his heart, as of 2 years ago, artery was 90 perc. blocked.. His problems are hereditary as he's in shape, active, weighs 180 lbs. He's had high blood pressure since he was 26. Anyway, hope it will help. He said he would try the fish oil but he's pessimistic.

    Hi Rebecca,

My tip, read Toxic Fat, if you haven't yet.  It explains everything about how the Zone works, including info about changing the expression of your genes.  It's powerful stuff.

Rebecca, if you used 1/4 cup, then it may play a more significant role and contribute some carb.  (I think there are 4 tbsp in a 1/4 cup measure, so you definitely added one block's worth of carb).

Good luck in getting the fish oil into your DH!  Sounds like he could really use it, especially per his doctor's recommendation.  A good fish oil isn't cheap, but if he can prevent his CAD from advancing, then it is definitely worth it.

Thanks for the info. I will look into hunting down the book. I didn't get enough mushrooms then.. as I only did three cups. Misread my book.. it said 3 cups chopped mushrooms So.. with the extra worchestershire.. maybe my ratio's are ok. Thanks john for the fish oil info. Is there any difference between the two? I already have the zone fish oil coming so i'm going to try it out anyway.
