I'm trying to figure out my activity level.  Typically, I hike in the mountains 16-24 miles per week, but I do this over two days, not every other day or daily.

Occasionally, I have to skip a day, which means I only hike 8-12 miles that week.  So, it's variable.

Next week, I may at times walk to and from work (can only do this when my daughter is in school), which is an hour of walking per day, plus the hiking the other days.

When I use the Zone Calculator: http://www.zonediet.com/Tools/Calcu...fault.aspx

I calculated myself as Moderate (11 blocks).  Maybe I'm not eating enough?
    Active is 13 blocks!
    Very Active
would be 14 blocks, 3 more than I'm eating now.  I don't think I need that much.

    Thanks!

I think you just have to come up with an overall average.  Even after exercise, you are still requiring fuel, so don't assume that you don't need extra food if you haven't exerted yourself on an off day.

I think I would put you down as active.

Thanks for weighing in on this, no pun intended.T

That would mean adding two blocks per day.  Have you seen people here add blocks and then lose better?  I ask because I'm not losing (I've lost and gained the same 1-3 pounds since mid-July).

If your body needs it, then it is possible that your fat loss will kick in once you feed your body what it needs.

I can't remember (I don't always keep mental records of other's posts; it is enough to keep track of myself sometimes), but weren't you having some struggles with hunger before?  If you were, then this could also explain it.

In any case, just think of it this way, 2 extra blocks per day is really only an additional 200 calories.  11 blocks is about 1100 cals, and 13 blocsk is about 1300 cals.  With your level of activity, you should still be able to lose weight easily on 1300 cals.  Not that we even worry about calories in the zone, but just wanted to put that into perspective for you.

Thanks, it is good to keep it in perspective, and I was having some hunger after lunch and dinner, but not breakfast (until I gave up oatmeal, and then breakfast is not 5 hours worth of satisfying).

In any case, the hunger I've experienced on in the zone is far different from at other times in my life.  It's a small hunger as opposed to a sort of panic level of hunger.  It's infrequent and more controlled, which is good.

Oh, yes! I remember now! LOL-the oatmeal, and you were trying to figure out what else to have for breakfast, etc... Hmmm, I would go ahead and try 1-2 blocks more. Like I said, in terms of calories, it isn't going to affect too much, but in terms of insulin and hunger (and giving the body what it needs), it could make all the difference.

    You gave up oatmeal?

I have oats almost daily- my special Zone recipe.

    1/2 cup rolled oats
    a tablespoon steel cut oats
    a cup of whole milk
3 almonds and some walnut pieces
    cinnamon
    a tablespoon of protein powder

I bring this mixture to a boil, while I fry up 2 ounces of super firm tofu, sliced into chunks (I use no oil, as I cook with a teflon pot, and coat the tofu with cinnamon)

I empty the oatmeal into a bowl, cover it with the cooked tofu (it should be so well done and cut so it resembles nuts) and sprinkle some lowfat mozzarella cheese on top.

I figure it's a four point joy--it usually holds me for 3-4 hours.

Yes, I gave it up because I'm not losing weight and people thought that might be why, too much GLA, but it held me for 5 hours and was my favorite, cheapest meal of the day.

Rachel, maybe you can re-visit that, considering the new information regarding activity level.  At least don't eliminate it altogether, try one meal per week and see how it goes.
