Most humble apologies for asking what I expect has been answered a bajillion times before -- my cursory site search hasn't turned up the answer.

Eico-RX, containing (among other ingredients) Omega-6, is represented to be superior to OmegaRX for fighting inflammation and aging. However, Dr. Sears warns repeatedly that our diets are already hyper-saturated with Omega-6, contributing to weight gain and a host of other icky effects and cautions us to keep it at 1% (or so) of our caloric intake.

So does taking EicoRX mandate strict adherence to Zone eating? That is, if my diet is hit or miss, should I stick with OmegaRX to avoid an unwanted increase in O-6?

    Hi Katherine,

People usually begin fish oil supplementation with Omega Rx.

Also, Eico Rx does not contain siginificant amounts of omega 6. The GLA and sesame added to Eico Rx are precisely what gives Eico Rx its enhanced ability to promote cellular rejuvenation.

Regardless of whether you choose Omega Rx or Eico Rx, stricter adherence to the Zone diet will give you better results.

    Katharine,

I don't believe that you will increase your Omega6 by taking EicoRx. EicoRx is special because it provides another source for getting GLA, which is important for fighting inflammation. However, the sesame oil represents the Omega6 that is added, and is there to help prevent the spillover effect from the GLA. You can read more about the spillover effect in Zone books. Sesame oil is preferred over other fats with higher amounts of Omega6 (I don't recall the reason, but I have read this as well in Zone books).

I personally can't comment to the amount that is in the fish oil. It is a "proprietary blend" and so no one really knows how much, but I have understood that this amount is small.

Thank you both MUCHO. When I was a True Zoner (several years ago, I used the EicoRX and expect that's where I'll go again. I'm getting more and more motivated to stick to the program (as Sue so gently reminds).

    .
Folks have found that the EicoRX (liquid) product has been discontinued. No explanation as to why. (Tech?)

The liquid has been discontinued not the caps. The demand wasn't there for the liquid.

Hmmm, that is too bad. I hope they continue to keep the liquid OmegaRx. I had switched to capsules earlier in the year because capsules are easier to transport (on trips), but it is easier to take the liquid (and I remember to add it to my smoothie).

I am also a tad concerned about the trace amount of carcinogen found in the ink that is stamped on the capsules. I know, it is only a trace, but I don't feel comfortable in using a product that is known to have it in there. A trace can certainly add up over the years, especially if it doesn't excrete out of the body. So, I am likely going to switch back to liquid.
