Wow, both articles you posted this morining (re: caffeine and food cravings) are exactly what I need at the moment ... thanks for posting!

The danger with caffeine with me is that it keeps me from sleeping well (something new as I get older), and then I find I need more and more to get me through the day as time goes on. Before I knew it, I was up to at least 10 cups/day (several being espresso -- a Venti Americano at Starbucks is 4 espresso shots!), plus Mt Dews, and even those 5-hour energy drinks! Now that I'm weaning off, I find that just a little has more of an impact. My body had built up a tolerance, and so needed more to feel the effect.

I'm glad for this article -- if I find it doesn't induce cravings later in the day, I just may stick with my morning mug of coffee (although maybe 1/2 decaf).

    Thanks!

    Pre-Warning: Don't get mad....
    .
I have never drank nor liked coffee, and therefore never got addicted
(correction - make that never made it a habit - Myth # 1).
    .
Pre-Zone, I would have a soda now and then, but never any with caffeine. While we lived in the South (VA and NC) for a while, I did start drinking iced-tea, but not the sugar laden southern version, I drank our own home brewed sun tea, with only a little lemon added. (Which i found out only recently, not to add lemon to tea!).
I was drinking tea at dinner, until I figured out - just that little bit was keeping me from sleeping well at night. So I kept what little iced tea I was drinking then down to 1 glass at lunch time. Now all I mostly drink is water, and some herbal teas in winter, with no lemon. (Lemon, I found out recently, brings out any unwanted heavy metals from the tea leaves - that might have been in the soil the tea was grown in - even organic teas.)
    .
I did have coffee, once, when I was 16: I was working as a dishwasher and as a salad/appetizer prep at a fancy Italian restaurant in Trenton, NJ - where my mother worked as a waitress. You can not imagine New Years eve at a place like that!
    .
(I'll have to find the pix and post it for a while).
    .
I decided that night that since caffeine was a stimulant, to have some coffee to keep me going from 5 pm until 4 AM with non-stop fast paced work. I ended up having 17 cups that night, as I recall. (I must have had so much caffeine, that I was so stimulated, that I was able to keep count as the number of cups as well -- who knows why after all these years.)
    .
They were my first and last cup(s) of coffee I ever had. Maybe the associated experience kept me away from caffeine, I'll leave that for psychologists to ponder.
