Noob PLer (powerlifter) here. In short I discovered from a bodybuilding start that I enjoyed the journey more than the destination and also that I really liked picking up heavy $#@! LOL and would much rather (as Jim says) "be awesome" than just LOOK awesome . I have been doing Wendler's 5/3/1 for 5 cycles & have made great gains in all the lifts as well as overall size/strength/etc. To that end my weight has gone up to the point that I "feel" it & I want to get leaner/etc. My wife has done The Zone for 5 weeks & really liked it. I have decided to try it and see what happens. My blocks per measurements are 24/24/24. So I guess I am looking for anyone who is/has done 5/3/1 on The Zone and what their results/experiences were, and if they adjusted the blocks why & how?

24 Blocks, if I read that right, is a pretty extreme amount of food. If I were you, you might take a look at that calculation to make sure you've done it right. Also, what are your goals? Are you looking to improve lift weight, cut, train for an exhibition, or just do better with Wendler's through nutrition.

I would recommend you also look into supplementing with either EicoRx or even EicoPro, though you may try the EicoRx first because the lower amount of GLA to start is advisable. It'll improve recovery, reduce painful soreness & hopefully improve your work out. Their designed for the very athletic and the GLA content helps produce the good Eiconoseids which improve workout recovery.

I reentered all the required stats per the Zone calculator & the 24/24/24 is accurate. I did chose the "Very Active" as far as Activity in that I thought it the most accurate of the choices.

My goals are to get as strong as I can & also improve my overall physical conditioning. I am a mesomorph and FT dominant so duration/high rep/set work is not my strong point.

    Hi Todd,

Usign very active is appropriate.  You're probably going to be better off adding a little monounsaturated fat to meals, a technique used by athletes to meet increased energy needs.  Decide that based on you energy levels.  You could begin by doubling the number of monounsaturated fat blocks you add to your meals.  Other than that, if you have hunger apply the apprioriate carbohydrate block adjustment according to Zone rules.  Good luck to you and you wife.

Thanks for the reply Sue. I will let my hunger & strength/focus lead me as far as what to add & when. I am coming from a macro background so all these blocks are very hard to wrap my head around. Obviously I have protein concerns & BMR, etc but I have promised I will do The Zone for a minimum of 30 days and 60 more likely in that I could run 2 cycles of 5/3/1 in that time. By then I should have an idea of what needs to be tweaked.

You're welcome Todd.   Also, the eating plan is only one part of the Zone plan.  The three key parts to the Zone are the Zone diet, ultra refined fish oil concentrates and polyphenols.  Also important to keep in mind is give your body a few weeks to adjust.  Good luck!
