I did the calculator and my number is 77 (11 blocks each of protein, carbs and fat) but how do I figure out how many blocks are in the food I'm eating? I've probably just missed an area on this site that has all of this info but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

hey sarah, i'd recommend you consider a few things to kickstart your program and get you ready for the grocery shopping. First, you can look for some zone books. They've been in publication in various forms for over a decade, and while the most up to date one, Toxic Fat, is a great start (sold on this website & amazon), any of the older ones would help you start zone cooking at home. This will help you for sure to know what to buy before you go to stock up at the grocery store.

If and when you want to consider kicking it up a notch, I'd suggest you take the zone challenge for 2 weeks of their prepared foods. I've been on it for 7 weeks now and have lost 20lbs so far and feel very different. It's not cheap, but when you know it'll probably work, it does make the cost seem to be an investment. Also, because most of your food content comes prepared for you in the way of breads, rolls, pasta & pizza crusts, all zoned with the right F/P/C ratio's, you really can save on your grocery bills and also go nearly Vegan, which has it's own benefits. Either way, paperbacks at the local book swap to the premade zone foods, zone eating works and i wish you all the best!!!

    Hi Sarah,

I posted this a while back, and it may be helpful in getting started.  The good news is that there's a tremendous amount of information on this site, so you can get a good solid start.  When you can, you could purchase Zone books at great discounts at half.com.

So here's what you could do:

    1.    Go to the Zone Diet Body Fat Calculator on this site, enter your numbers and it will tell you how many protein blocks you need to eat per day.

Here's the link (copy/paste into your address bar if the links in this post aren't working) -> http://www.zonediet.com/Tools/Calculators/tabid/159/Default.aspx

    2.    Go to the Quick Start Guide and read the Basic Zone Rules tab:

    http://www.zonediet.com/Tools/QuickStartGuide/tabid/108/Default.aspx

    3.    Check out the Meal Planner for some meal and snack examples:

    http://www.zonediet.com/Tools/MealPlanners/tabid/84/Default.aspx

    4.    Check out the Zone Food Blocks tab of the Quick Start Guide for foods that you can substitute into the meal and snack examples if you don't like or have the foods on hand:

    http://www.zonediet.com/Tools/QuickStartGuide/tabid/108/Default.aspx

    5.    Use the Search feature in the upper right corner of the website (shown below) to type in keywords for your questions -- it's amazing how much you can learn from that!  For example, I typed in "hunger adjustments" and got a ton of info on how to adjust my foods and blocks to extend the periods between hunger.

    Forum Search

And feel free to post your questions and thoughts in the forum -- it's a great way to stay connected and motivated!

    Hope this helps!
