Hi Karen, You would add extra monounsaturated fat to your meals. You can either double or triple the number of 1.5 gram fat blocks you'd usually add to meals. A 3 block meal with double the number of fat blocks would contain 3 protein blocks, 3 carbohydrate blocks and 6 fat blocks; a 3 block meal with triple fat blocks would contain 3 protein blocks, 3 carbohydrate blocks and 9 fat blocks. _______________________________________________________ sue Lost 100 lbs 15 yrs ago, off BP meds, thanks to the Zone diet and Zone fish oil. You're welcome Karen. At 88 pounds total weight, 15 balanced blocks would provide you with far too many calories, which would result in elevated insulin levels and increased production of inflammation (you would not be in the Zone). The way to gain body fat in the Zone is to eat your protein requirement and add extra monounsaturated fat as I described in the previous post. Eating 1 extra balanced block of P, C and F, as you mentioned (12 blocks instead of 11), might be fine. Eating 15 balanced blocks when you require 11 is far too much. Eating the "normal amount" of fat in your Zone balanced meals will cause continued loss of stored body fat. Adding extra monounsaturated fat to your meals will prevent your body from burning more stored fat (prevent you from losing more weight), and if you eat enough extra fat you will gain stored body fat (gain weight). I do not know how long it will take you to reach your ideal weight. |

Hi Karen, How long have you been eating 12 blocks a day? Do you exercise?

Karen, I don't think you have to be worried about eating too many calories. You need more calories. But, you don't want to get the extra calories from carbs or protein. You need to get them from fat. If you stay at 12 blocks, then definitely increase the fat. However, it would probably not hurt at all for you to get some additional protein. Based on your low weight, I would guess that you need to add some lean body mass. So, if you think you should eat more than 12 blocks, it probably isn't a bad idea. I am not sure about going up to 15, but maybe try 13 blocks if you have not been successful with 12 blocks. If you don't gain with 13 blocks, then try increasing the fat (in fact, I think if I were you, I would just go ahead and increase the fat, anyway, no matter how you approach it). |

Inflammation also has to be taken into consideration. One problem with eating too many calories is that the excess will be converted into circulating levels of fat (both excess protein and carbohydrate will be converted to fat). Another thing that came to my mind initially, that I didn't mention eariler, is that 11 blocks may even be too much for a person with a total weight of 88 pounds. |

I weigh 102 & would like to see myself go up to at least 110. I have had Hypoglycemia since I was 14. I am petite (5'3.5) & I have a very fast metabolism. Are these blocks accurate for me? Thank you! |

Hi R, Although you haven't mentioned your LBM (block amounts are based on LBM and activity), you should be fine with 11 blocks. |

Karen, Sue hit the nail on the head. If you want to be in the zone just increase you fat blocks. |

Thanks for the additional LBM info R. I'd suggest 11 blocks daily with extra monounsaturated fat added, as Tech Support and I mentioned earlier in this thread. Good luck! :-) _______________________________________________________________________ sue Lost 100 lbs 15 yrs ago, off BP meds, thanks to the Zone diet and Zone fish oil. ZoneFast 1-2-3 is the best!
