    hi there,

I'm new to zone and just starting out and have just read the book for the first time.  I have a question about quinoa and amaranth (which I eat a lot of both) can they be counted as a protein or do they fit into the carbohydrate box?

    Thanks
    Georgia

    Hi Georgia -- welcome!

I don't recall the specifics, but there have been quite a lot of good posts on quinoa and amaranth. If you click on "Search" in the upper right (next to "My Profile") enter the word "quinoa" and click Search, you'll find a lot of good information.

Here's a link to one of the threads -- hopefully this will help!

Hi Georgia, nice to meet you.  They are both considered to be unfavorable carbohydrate for the Zone.

In the Zone unfavorable carbohydrate are limited to 25% or less of all the carbohydrate in a meal.
