Hello there. I was hyperthyroid and could eat anything I wanted. After radiation therapy I have now been hypothyroid for several years. I am 39 and have just had my second child, a son, he was 10lbs when born. I am having a terrible time losing weight and frankly was prior to him coming along. even with exercise in the gym walking 2-10 miles daily and eating fairly healthy but not a lot I can't seem to lose weight. I am sooo uncomfortable and want my clothes to fit again. I am a freelance writer so I sit some, but I also do walk a lot and chase a 16 month old and a 10 year old with ADD around all day.

Any help on foods I can serve my family and myself or how to balance feeding them the pasta that is so cost effective and they love with eating what i need to for my health. Help?

Also, is there a forum for others with thyroid disease working in the Zone??

I'm curious if you're getting your thyroid disease treated. It should help with hunger and weight loss.

I've found a few veggie substitutions for pasta: spaghetti squash, cauliflower "rice", or steamed shredded cabbage. Lay those down as your bed of carb to soak up the flavour of whatever you put on top.

    Hi Mandi,

I have hypothryoidism that is begin treated and I've been very successful with the Zone.

Re foods for your family, do some reading in the Kids forum here. There's a lot of good info there. I think you'll find it very helpful.

Use the search feature at the top of this page to find many postings from people with hypothyroidism.

Also search drsears.com for additional info.

Great suggestions on the pasta substitutions xee! I was just thinking about what to have with my Chicken Cacciatore tonight. I also really like Tofu Shirataki noodles (nutritional info below).

Hello there. Yes, I'm sorry I failed to mention. I take levothyroxine 75 MCG daily. I can usually tell when it needs to be adjusted and have felt much like it did lately, but the blood tests where fine. Having gone from hyperactive to hypoactive, I have had a bit of a learning curve and have recently been told that the carpal tunnel like issues I am having, the fatigue, the muscle and joint aches and so on can be associated with thyroid function and that some thyroid function symptoms can actually be insulin issues, maybe even induced by over doing it with pasta and that type of food, which I admit we eat a lot of in my home because we are on such a tight budget and those food types go a couple of meals.
