I recently switched from whey protein to soy protein. I just wondered if protein power in general causes constipation or gets backed up in the digestive track (like some other proteins, aka, red meat).

Also, does soy protein cause constipation more so than whey?

    Thanks for your help.

I'm not positive of an answer regarding if the protein gets backed up in your system, but I do know that several people I know say that soy protein shakes "go right through" them...So I don't think that the soy protein would lead to constipation, although everyone is different.

I used to purchase Soy Protein Shakes from Revival Soy which I thought were pretty excellent...Although lately I've been drinking my EAS Whey Protein, I find it very yummy as well!

Hi Maureen, I've never heard of that before either. Here is an article about the digestability of different protein sources: http://www.drsears.com/tabId/399/it...drate.aspx

Everyone is different - I personally don't do well with Soy anything as I'm hypothyroid. I have better luck with Whey.

I currently use Soy protein powder and have had a fine time with it. I use it every morning in a smoothie with berries or some type of favorable fruit. I have heard people on here talk about egg white protein, I think it's called Jay Robb's. I'm going to try that next. I don't do well with Whey. I can't seem to stay in the Zone when I use Whey especially anything that is flavored. I use plain, non-flavored for my smoothies and let the fruit flavor it:-)
